My entry:REMINDER - New Contest: Hell's BellesWhat is this?
This is a brief contest, meaning that you will have only one month to complete it. It is a personal contest, meaning I'm doing this on my own, and it's not the huge project/contest to which I alluded in an earlier post. That's still coming.
This contest will run from March 7th to April 6th, 2015. It is something I've wanted to do for a while to meet new people and to get people involved in the community.
Who can enter?
I will only accept photomanipulations, digital mixed media work, and digital paintings/drawings. These are the only media I feel comfortable judging. I apologize to those of you who do not use these media.
Theme
The theme of this contest is Hell's Belles. The theme is indeed a pun on "hells bells," so you can rock out to AC/DC's iconic song as you contemplate your entry. (See above.)
By "Hell's Belles," I am referring to women who roc

I like this, it has a touch of Art nouveau yet maintains an original style. I don't think the horns are all on one side, it's a profile. I agree about some of the shading, her neck and eyes could use a bit more depth. It's still terrific.

Hm, this is an interesting design. First off, props for the facial proportions. That turned out great and this person is easily identifiable because of it. Also, the hair is quite lively, with various strands on all sides being visible, and I think you came through on that. The horns add to the concept, but is there a reason they're all on on side of the head? (not an actual problem I have, I'm just curious.)
I noticed the shading and tones are more prominent on the face but not so much on the rest of the body. The way the piece is set up it brings focus to the center, so it's not necessarily an issue but you could always experiment with layering on future digital works and see how you like it.
Overall, I really like this piece. I'd give it 4 out of 5. It has a sense of the supernatural, with chaos flowing all around but beauty within.

The "background" (thorns and the stone/grey area) need more detailed work.
The girls face/back looks that they're half-finnished. Add more shadows to those parts, so that her skeletal-"base" becomes more defined.
Add a few dark strokes to her hair to create more depth, accentuate her scull a tiny bit more.
The horns are fine as they are, as are the white sprinkles and the blue bg.
I hope that I don't offend you with these pinpointers.

This is really, really beautiful and I love the small details in the work.
If I'm going to be picky, there are a few things that are a bit bothersome to me when studying the picture in depth. When looking at it a little more, the proportions of the face and shoulders seem a bit shallow. I'm not sure if this is the angle, but if it is, I feel that the shading should reflect that because in the shading that you have, it give the sense that the proportions are much more compacted than they are. I really like the color pallet choice and I'm a personal fan of the stark contrast of colors between skin and background and skin and hair the way you've done it here. Again, if I'm going to be really picky, I would say to maybe bring out the color a little more to give it more depth, but otherwise, I really really like what you did with it. It's a beautiful piece and I love the little details that you've put into it.
