Onceler x DaughterNature! Reader part 7

(Now for the horrible bit, I need to get it out the way before it ends happily for Onceler)

Soon you came to regret ever trusting the Onceler. After his product, the Thneed became successful, his family came to partake in the business by moving to the Valley. At first, you had been happy for him; his family were just like your mother but worse, they never appreciated him and now they supported him.

Within a week, Onceler had broken his deal with you and started chopping down every one of the trees that gave the Valley its tranquillity.

However, you tried to intervene at every chance you had to get the Onceler back. You tried everything; making flowers grow in the machinery, bending any nearby water into the factory, everything you could think of. Your damage never lasted for long, though.

You also tried to talk to the Onceler yourself. But every time, he acted like you weren't even there. It was like you could hardly recognize your dear Oncie any more. He didn't even look like your Onceler, with his green suit and everything. Nothing worked, you couldn't save him from himself.

Slowly, your Valley started to lose its beauty and life and became a barren and polluted wasteland. The animals all coughed nowadays. It broke your heart to see your home and its inhabitants fall apart. Not even the Lorax could do anything as the last Truffula tree suddenly fell.

The thud resounded for a moment.

"Oncie, look around you" you pleaded as your tears fell from your (e/c) eyes.

This time, Onceler heard your voice. He saw the damage for the first time since his business had started its successful journey. His family had forsaken him and left him here on his own. "No" he whispered softly.

Lorax ranted at Onceler about what he had done and that the Valley was now dead.

The old you would've defended the Onceler. Now, you were too heartbroken to say anything.

Lorax then turned and evacuated all of the animals, including Oncie's little donkey, Melvin. He left a stone with the word 'Unless' engraved in it and rose into the sky.

Onceler turned around and finally saw you. "(Name), I..." he attempted to apologise.

"Save your words, Onceler. I had warned you but you acted like I wasn't even there. I had to watch my home die. I can't keep my promise to a man who breaks his word over something as frivolous as wealth. I'm sorry, Onceler, but I can't" you said sadly as you walked on air back to the heavens. Leaving the man you once loved heartbroken.

No matter what, you still loved Onceler. That's why you were heartbroken. You decided to secretly keep watch over him in the heavens.
