This illustration was inspired by a small factoid:
The unicorn, tamable only by a virgin woman, was well established in medieval lore by the time Marco Polo described them as "scarcely smaller than elephants. They have the hair of a buffalo and feet like an elephant's. They have a single large black horn in the middle of the forehead... They have a head like a wild boar's⦠They spend their time by preference wallowing in mud and slime. They are very ugly brutes to look at. They are not at all such as we describe them when we relate that they let themselves be captured by virgins, but clean contrary to our notions." Such a shame too, I really like Rhinos. I heard today that a subspecies of the black rhino was declared extinct? which is also a shame. I wonder if people will ever learn, as a whole.

It's actually turned into more of an issue with global gangs and militaristic assholes that now send in troops to actually mass hunt out rhinos for their income to gain weapons and supplies to what do you guess? Kill and plunder more people. Poachers are becoming more of the past scenario and organizations that have money and almost more advanced weaponry than the rangers are the new threat. Some rich are actually investing into the extinction of the animal by buying stocks of rhino horn now which disgusts me more than anything. Vietnam is the biggest consumer of rhino horn as of late to cure ... hang overs.. Because you know, gotta fix that sickness right? They also believe it magically fixed a well known political figure of cancer or some shit and no one researches things there so many people believe the superstition. Vietnam also has been booming lately so more people are demanding it with their incomes. China is also known to use rhino horn but it's not as great as the demand in Vietnam, and it's climbing insanely fast.Β
There's been more than 1000 rhinos killed this year, and it's getting worse. White rhinos are gone in north Africa. Black there's about 2000 ish. I think there's more in the south but if this demand continues, they're good as gone, especially with rich individuals that are paying for the success of their extinction. It really bothers me.. BUT GOOD WORK!

I wonder why he thought the horn was on the forehead instead of the nose. He described everything else pretty accurately, but one of the most important things he got wrong!
