... the dragons were so much fun when they were done- I wanted to try making a few other mythical creatures...What better beast for me to start with (after dragons) but the Kirin~ scales + fur + horns + tail + fangs + hooves... just had to be done, eh?
I had meant to make a Baku~ honestly - not sure what happened... maybe I'll try to get myself to make one next~ but I may distract myself with something wholly new D:

I just love your dolls and this is no exception. They all have such unique character and you always manage to incorporate so many interesting colors and fabrics in the designs. Its so nice to see so much variety in textiles.

^^ Thanks, Slash~ I'm totally with ya on the mixing of textures~ I'm so often concerned about how the doll/creature will feel to touch... D: probably not really the first concern for most artists.. and all things considered - maybe a silly thought. That said - if the textile looks soft and nice- it usually is.

oh drat! Rhiella - I had this little guy sitting next to my little Soom Ai and thought: '..really should take a photo of those two together...' 'cause you'd shown an interest in that kinda combo and they did look cute~ all hooves and horns and whatnot...
But then he sold and I packed him up this morning... and totally -totally- forgot ><

He looks amazing, I love his facial expression and the mix of furs works really well. I especially like the red mane, and of course the antlers. The only suggestion I have is that the ears look a bit rough, I'm not sure if it's the paint or type of fabric but maybe try sculpting them or using a different type of fur. Oh, and maybe next time try carving out the bottom of the hooves more. Other than that he looks fantastic, I hope you do more kirins in the future!

Yeah - the ears aren't as smooth/natural as they could be.. But I was rather pleased with how this particular fabric worked on one of my dragons.. I think it just looked a bit more finished at his scale. That said - I don't think I'd want to sculpt ears as delicate as these would need to be. I like to create works that can be interacted with without too much worry... in the past I have used sugru for ears of this type... perhaps I shall again - should I ever make another kirin.
The hooves are also meant mostly for standing and toughness... this desire for 'tough' can be a real limiting factor... aaaand I worry too much. Thanks very much for the insights/suggestions!

That makes sense, and no worries, they're just suggestions after all, I don't make poseables so I can't say for sure what works functionally.
