Description One of those period-long scribbles in art class. ExDeath is easily my favorite villain from the Final Fantasy series. He comes from a time before Square's unoriginality and dangerous fetish for young, long-silver-haired, one-dimensional villains that you get in just about every one of their games since Final Fantasy VII. Drawn with pen.

Yay! somebody else's favorite villian is Exdeath, although I don't really have a problem with the other villians in final fantasy I've always liked Exdeath and Gilgamesh, they're not shallow and they have awesome theme music

Awesome ExDeath art. I always thought he, Kefka and a few others looked the best.

And i agree with the lame villian thing, but i have to say i am sick of this "the hero looks girly" thing they have done in the past few games.

Exdeath comes from the same generation as Kefka, pretty different from Golbez/Zemus and Xande or Paramekia. He's like Kefka, he wants all destroyed...Kefka also wants it, but he's more sadic and bastard XD

If you remember, the reason he wants everything destroyed/warped is because he isn't JUST ONE PERSON. He's many evil spirits in one physical form, which wants everything turned into nothingness. So if Exdeath was real as was the threat, you'd better be shitting your pants if he got his hands on the Void!

BTW I'm a hardcore Exdeath fan ^_^

Kefka's excuse though was "he's insane." Which translates to "we can't be bothered to give him a real backstory." -.-;

Well he wasn't just insane. His mind was warped in an experiment. He has a lot more backstory than most people think. At first he wanted to rule, then he wanted to destroy. I thought the great thing about Kefka was that even when he was a god, he still retained his sense of humor. However, I do agree, that Exdeath is pretty friggin' awesome. He has the best looking armor, the best name ( Come on, who else is gonna be called Exdeath?) The name always sounds cool. I liked his goals, the fact that he was a tree (I find it kinda rare to see evil trees). His theme has one of the best music out there. And I loved it when he transformed into Neoexdeath. I was like "HOLY SHIT!" Great artwork by the way. One of the best Exdeath drawings out there.

I know of Kefka's background, but the underlying motivation for his actions is simply he's insane--as you said, due to being the first test subject of Magitek infusion. But the events that lead him into becoming a "god" are sort of forced plot devices. Clearly, Gestahl could've wiped him out with ease, but how convenient that standing between the statues negates magic. And then when he begins moving the statues, the party could've easily, I don't know, pushed him off the continent even when it started breaking apart. Once he achieved his godhood, he goes on to...do very little. I feel that's where they destroyed the character of Kefka, since he was insane and pretty much just wanted to destroy stuff, but the most he ends up destroying are a few towns that talk bad about him. But I still think he's far better than Sephiroth.

No, the party couldn't simply push him off. Remember, before Kefka even moved the statues, Gestahl froze the party with the statues, except for Celes, because he wanted her to join him. Then Celes stabs Kefka instead of the party. He gets pissed, kills Gestahl. Then Celes tells him to stop, but he bitch slaps Celes, so she's hurt. Then Shadow comes and traps Kefka within the statues by pushing them to corner him. He did destroy towns, but he actually did a lot more than that. He basically screwed up the entire planet with that "Light of Judgment" technique of his. ( A feat which I commend Kefka for, since FF villains rarely achieve godhood and then mess up the entire planet). I do agree that he's much better than Sephiroth. Not saying Sephiroth isn't cool, he is, no doubt about that. But he's not nearly as good as the earlier FF villains and personally, I think he's a wee bit overrated. People don't talk about Kefka or Exdeath nearly as much as they talk about Sephiroth. Not sure why.

Actually, they could have, because World of Balance Kefka was extremely weak. Kefka, by standing between the Triad, was protected from Gestahl's spells which would've, quite honestly, erased him from history.

And it wasn't the Light of Judgment that ripped the world apart, it was the simple moving of the statues, which threw out of alignment the balance of power between the three, and by extension, the world itself.

In all honesty, Exdeath was pretty one-dimensional himself. He was "Bwahahaha destroy everything".

But Final Fantasy V rocked my socks.

He wants the worlds to rebeing in its first the form (the void, to say)

But he's also acknowledged as being one-dimensional, whereas characters like Sephiroth fake depth when in reality characters such as he are even more plastic than those that simply accept what they are. Square has not grasped the prospect of a deep villain, and unfortunately their character designs also mirror that now.

True. I lol at people who try to find depth in the newer villaina.

It's funny. XD Most of them are just fangirls who have an eerie attraction to fictional, anime characters. Somehow, a character being "omgsexxxyy21!1!!" makes them the greatest character ever. XD

You, sir, are awesome. I love your little rant there, too, because it's so true. I love the old Square that put the focus on great gameplay, not graphics and cinematics. That's for anime nerds, not gamers

FF5 was a fantastic game. Thanks for remembering it too.
