Description STREETS OF FIRE...one of those great films from the 1980s that is rarely mentioned or remembered but was always special to me. I was 8 when the film was released in 1984. The film has a lot going for it and it is stunning that it isn't much more popular. For starters you have Mr. Walter Hill writing and directing. What I think really sets the film off is that it is otherworldly. This isn't our world, this is a land of rock n roll. At it's essence it's a modern noir film in the same way "Dark City" or "Sin City" was. The cars, costumes, characters and settings are something out of the 1940s and 50s while the music is out of the 1980s. Hill described the plot as "The Queen of the Hop" is kidnapped by "The Leader of the Pack" and "Soldier Boy" comes home to rescue her. That just oozes cool. Then Hill once again gets Ry Cooder to produce a killer rock-a-billy and blues score and you got in my opinion, one damn fine film. Hopefully when people see this pin-up they either run out to see it because they never have or they hunt it down to see it one more time because they have either forgotten about it or just want to watch it for the 100th time.

What type of art is this actually classed as? I love that kind of cartoon realism that you see in lots of 1980s movie posters. Great work btw.

This is one of my favorite movies. I saw it in the theater on its first day and was almost all alone and the volume was loud and I fe Every time I set up someones TV and Stereo System I put this on to test the system. One of the best soundtracks. I hope they do a Blue Ray for it soon.

About the MTV Video did you know that there were 2 of them. The first one was an uninterrupted and extended sequence from the movie with the Sorrels which was fantastic. The second one was set in a bar with Dan Hartman the actual voice as the bartender and had the Sorrels version playing on a TV in the background - lame. But apparently Dan wasn't getting any recognition for the song as the guys in the movie did such a great job of lip syncing that everyone thought it was them but Dan is a White Guy so they made the second video to give credit where credit was due I guess.

Just FYI

Normally, I'm not much of an action movie/noir film buff, but then there's this. I had no idea Rick Moranis did this, but he did. I had no idea it was popular in Japan, but when I saw it, I understood why. I wouldn't call it the best movie out there, but it tried. It really, really tried. To quote The Nostalgia Critic whenever he hears the Duck Tales theme song, "It will never leave!". And, it led to this:

I have strange ideas.

I'm 34, and I saw this movie over and over when I was a teenager. Today, it still have a very strange feeling about it, like if I would have loved to live in this world.

Like you, as I loved this movie so much, I was quite sure that everybody knew it, but here in France, nobody did knew it... I just discovered someday on Wikipedia that it was a huge failure in 84. How can it be a failure!?! Either we have very bad tastes, or the rest of the world has I made my choice

I just got done watching this movie for the first time, and wanted to see if anyone had created any art based on it, because it's such a visually striking movie, almost like watching a comic book.

And yay! I found this! Magnificent work!

I saw this film so many times growing up in the 80s it just blew me away how many people never saw it. I'll bet they remember the "I can dream about you" video on MTV but the film is actually kind of a cult film. Always cool to find people who love it as much as I do. They're probably remaking it soon.

Nooooo! They NEED to leave this movie alone damnit!
Why try and fix something that ain't broken? They will
change the music and it'll be some kind of bloody
hip hop or r&b shit. Grrr!

Yes, the soundtrack is pretty rad as well. Fire Inc was amazing. The Blasters, Ry Cooder's score. I just like most of Walter Hill's films and this movie was such a rarity...it is just special.

Absolutely. My favorite songs would have to be "Nowhere Fast," "Tonight is what it means to be young," "One bad stud" and "I can dream about you." And Diane Keaton looks fantastic as Ellen Aim.

That's pretty good. I've seen this movie... but it's been a long time, I can't remember that much.

A short Japanese anime film called "Zillion: Burning Night" (1991) seemed to have been inspired by this film.

That's usually the response I get about this peice. There seems to be a small group of fans for Streets of Fire out there. I pretty much watched it again and again in the 80s and figured everyone else did but so few people even know about it. Perfect movie in my opinion.

Definitely...when I posted this peice about three people responded with applause while everyone else had big question marks for it. "What movie is that?!" The movie's a gem, it has everything yet is unlike anything ever made. Lane was hot, Pare was hard as nails, Dafoe was creepy as Hell, Paxton and Moranis were ammusing and Madigan was cool as they come. Plus that soundtrack with Ry Cooder, The Blasters and Fire Inc...awesome! I've been a fan since it's 84 release and consider it one of my top 100 movies ever made.
