While the young lord couldn’t have been more appalled, flopping around in the dirt as a disconnected skull was just a temporary experience, at least.

The gesture was appreciated by the woman as well as the empress, and the route was pretty much set, with no turning back. Using asymmetrical warfare and strategies when it came to the competition that would have put tears of joy and approval into the face of any Merovingian, they cleared the table quite nicely, the way a butcher does after having done away with a good days work. The fact that in a feudal society all the strings are tied at the top (being Rhagaea herself) and turn into a mess further down, stopped their opponents from effectively uniting in any meaningful way. All in all, a lot of spilling body juices and unspeakable things all over the place. (And, should I ever get to it, I'd certainly do it on site like boosty or patreon, sorry to say)

Then, working on the late Garios basic idea, they started the empire anew, leaving historians down the road to wonder if some of it was more of product of Rhagaeas brilliance or Keisha’s insanity. She gave up on the hereditary claim to the imperial throne, her own with it. Which was a pretty sane move, and made Keisha very happy because she didn’t have to worry as much about keeping a second batch of kids alive, despite still being a lousy cook. Not to mention that Rhed decided that he had chopped off enough heads for a lifetime but never got enough of the crazy girl, so it was pretty much happily ever after. Boring from a storytelling point of view, but very much appreciated by the concerned parties.

As for the empire, the machine took the changes in stride and rumbled on on its own, for couple of centuries to come, most likely. But there are always new stories to be told, so wait for the next season of To the Death for the later events.
