Description "Like a ghost don't need a key...
Your best friend, I've come to be...
Oh, please don't think of getting up for me
You don't even need to speak...
I've been here for just one day
You'll already miss me if I go away...
So close the blinds and shut the door
You won't need other friends any more...

If you're cold, I'll keep you warm...
If you're low... just hold on!
'Cause I will be your safety
Oh, don't leave home...

I arrived when you were weak
I'll make you weaker, like a child...
Now all your love you give to me
When your heart is all I need...

Oh how quiet, how quiet the world can be
When it's just you and little me!
Everything is clear, and everything is new...
So you won't be leaving... will you?

'Cause I will be your safety!
I will be your safety...
I WILL BE YOUR SAFETY!
Oh, don't leave home...!"

Dido Armstrong; 'Don't Leave Home'

Another beautiful work from

Pyrrha has been busy mobilising the forces of the north and west to lead them against the hordes of the South - but she's never too busy to come home for the New Year and give her beloved little sister a kiss. Tibby and NomNom have missed her too.

In the end, they chose to sacrifice Pyrrha - they decided she should stay with her little sister instead of leading a mortal life, and that she should take up the War God's offer of the Helm of Battle and fight against the desert nomads.

But Pyrrha doesn't really mind. It's not all about her, after all. When the war is won and the North is saved, she can always go back to training as a vet. And someone has to look after Ellie, don't they? Even if it means giving up her dreams of a husband and a family. It always pays to have someone caring for a person who can destroy star systems just by thinking about it. [link]

Ellie learned a lot too. Her friends talked her out of brutally murdering Pyrrha's would-be suitors. She didn't really want to do that, anyway, they were really just silly little boys. Now she has her Kitten-Py and she has her _forever_. And she's the happiest little pooklet in the whole wide world.

It's been many long years, and I'm glad their story ended like this. It's not without a subtle kind of horror, but I think this ending works out for the best, and it could have been much, much worse...

A bittersweet ending, but of the best kind.

I think it was the best ending I could have hoped for. It's been almost ten years leading up to this, and it was a very important moment.

Pyrrha must abandon her mortality, but it could have been LOT worse.

The funniest moment is when one of the characters suggested she 'share' Pyrrja with one of her suitors... I've never seen a player shouted down so quickly by the other players

As we all know what Ellie is capable of...this is probably the best option. As long as no one else forgets that this really was a sacrifice.

Congratulations on 100 deviations!

Yeah, very good point. In some ways they took the easy way out. I don't want them forgetting that a willing sacrifice is still a sacrifice.

Happy New Year to you Bookie!

Precisely. Just because there was no way for you to defeat or defer the immature demigod doesn't mean appeasing her was the right thing to do, by nearly anyone. And besides...

Don't we all tire of our toys, eventually?

Oh, there was a fair few ways to get rid of the Harbingers over the years. The players just didn't take them; they liked their powers and gifts too much. But now it's too late. One of the gods (a former PC in fact) did take a stand and try to fight her when she was vulnerable. The players killed him.

>Don't we all tire of our toys, eventually?

Humans do, but the faey don't. They live their lives in the moment, caught up in their old legends and histories and emotions. Everyone and everything else gets pulled into this, becoming actors and toys in their great game. I think you put it best when you summed up that Ellie is stuck as a stupid kid forever, always experiencing the sugar-highs and crushing lows of adolescence.

If only she would tire of Pyrrha. The poor kid might find some peace. It's always Xmas Day with Ellie, with all the horror that entails.

Mm, probably best not to consider the other possibilities...

There were six possible options. The worst ones saw Ellie & Kitty-Py split up, which would have really hurt the players (who wants an angry, immature god-child mad at you?). If Ellie killed the suitors, Pyrrha becomes evil, which is fun for me, but less so for her family. If she refused the Helm, the nomads overrun most of the world.

So all said and done, this was the 'happy' ending. Though it's possible to be a bit sad for Pyrrha too.

True, that's as good a word as any.

I don't think Py really minds though. It's about as good an ending as they could get, all considered.
