Very instructive to follow all these detailed feedback. I'm too novice to offer technical comments but I appreciate a lot the story in this artwork.

Beau travail, avec un titre très porteur

Merci

I really enjoy this. The treatment of the model, along with the cracked ground married with the exquisitely soft sky and moon; the simplicity of the heart lock and key tree, all very clean = lovely.

This is great! The overall concept and the lighting are great!

I have only two suggestions:

-First, the shadows look very good - they are all facing the same way and all look pretty convincing. However, the sky is pretty bright. When the sky is bright the shadow is less defined (too much light), so try to blur and fade the shadow so it isn'ts as pronounced. The moon looks great though

-Second, the light on the tree seems very white. Try to add a little yellow to the light or some yellow highlights to better connect the tree with the background.

Otherwise this is great! Excellent work!
Best of luck in the challenge!!

Dan

I kinda disagree with these suggestions...the sky being bright, with good strong shadows...gives a surreal feeling, subtly...it's an emphasis that this is NOT normal reality. Further, the whiteness of the tree, when it's such a lovely apricot atmosphere, yet enough shade to give strong shadows...why is it like that?...because it's not normal reality.

I think it works...if it was all connected, might be more normal, less sur-real. I guess I would want to see both, but I think it might not improve the triangular (classic) balance of the gray-white tree, and the green and white model, against the peachy sky, accented with red hearts and purple flowers, with the triangle completed by the strong tree shadow. Just my thoughts today (I looked at this image last week, and thought then you might be right Dan, but with a second look days later, I disagree).

Hurray! Someone finally disagreed with my critique!!

The critique I gave is based on what I know as an artist and from reality. However, being this is a surreal piece those don't totally matter. As it is I based a little of my critique around my opinion. This piece following the Challenge requirements well, but in my point of view (and I prefer realism, however surreal it may be) there were a few things that looked out of place.

I agree with you and :devmaellinn: that the overall contrast of the piece is good and the tree helps in that sense. That said, the challenge is based around surrealism - as crazy as everything looks, the idea is for it to look realistic in some way. In a way - abstract realism.

Please don't misunderstand me though I am not upset or offended by your disaggreeing with me suggestions. They are, after all, only suggestions. They are to a degree, based on my opinion of art and reality (and I will admit, surreal art isn't one of my strong points, although I do appreciate it a lot).

I do agree completely in one area though - the title is great

Thanks
Dan

NP...I only disagreed because I thought making it all blend together would lose the quality/feeling it has now.

I'm glad you are happy I disagree!

I was thinking that some of Dali's (master of surrealism) work has some funky lit sources within his works, though I'm not going to spend a lot of time looking it up, etc., I still have another manip to finish for this contest!

That's fair.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion I'm not saying mine is the best or even right - its just there.

Good luck on your manip

Plus, it's like there is something bright, just beyond the tree to the right, that gives the strong shadows, brightness in foreground; just realized the hearts and keys don't have shadows....

Thanks for your comment

So, i tried to ajust this piece with the da-joint-stock's advices but i didn't have a good result. And i think the shadows give power to the overall piece, beeing so pronouced.
The bright light give some contrast too. I want contrast and different colors... And if i color the tree with orange, i have to do the same with the dress, and i don't want...

So, i changed some little details, tell me if it's better or not

Btw, hearts and keys have shadows
