Description My final character concept design for Wren, the snarky and flamboyant lead protagonist for my project STORM DRIFTERS! Developed for my BA Concept Art degree final year assessment. I've been combining cowboy aesthetics with pirates and even cavaliers, to create a look that's both high fantasy yet distinctive- I put a lot of dragon wing shapes into the fabrics.

Wren as a character has been fun to work on! He's someone who has to rely on quick wits and a sharp aim for most combat, as his lankiness doesn't really give him any advantages in close combat, the boy folds like a napkin if you punch him. He kind of covers up a lot of his insecurities with dry humour and biting remarks- the idea of STORM DRIFTERS was kind of to explore friendship, and how Wren learns to open up through bonding with his animal companion, who happens to be a dragon. I was really inspired by old Western films, and how caring those lone riders were to their horses.

If you'd like to see more of the development side for his design (eg hairstyle and prosthetic design development), I have them on my site:  madeleinenoonie.art/projects/2…

-
Amongst the wilderness which surrounds isolated cities and in the skies above, crime has taken its toll in the form of raiders and bandits. In retaliation, councils have begun to hire a new type of mercenary. Famous for taming dragons for aerial combat, they are known as those who follow trouble: the STORM DRIFTERS. In an era where humans barely trust one another, can mankind learn to place faith in the beasts which once hunted them?

I saw the website you linked, and all of the concept art you've done for Wren is amazing! I can absolutely see him being the next big protagonist, whether for a game, animation, whatever it may be!
It's so interesting to see all the variations and ranges you experimented with while creating him, I wish you all the luck and I hope you pass with flying, soaring colours! ♥
