Airavata, or Erawan (Thai), is the the celestial ancestor of modern elephants who carries the Hindu god Indra. He is said to use his trunk to draw up water from the underworld and spray it into the clouds, which Indra then turns to rain.Airavata is "the one who knits or binds the clouds."
