I totally dig outfit #3, specially the bandana :>
I have to say, please by all means go all out on this!
I'd love to see a completely original work from you. I really have to admire you having a character such as Lucas and developing him for such a long time. I just can wait! I hope this all new story gets a lot of attention :'D
Ahhh... this makes me reflect about something. Some artist's original work just go off without recognition, in comparison with fanart of franchises or series. It really ticks me off. The other day I was browsing through Proto's first gallery submissions. He has some cool original art and stories, but almost no pageviews, or comments, or favorites! MNGHNG.
He's now with Cross Out, but I'd love to see him pick up some of his old original work now that he has won his reputation, having shown off what he's capable off. I think that's the true objective of fanart and tributes to series, to help an artist show off what they're capable of doing. Not only to share our likings, fanart can help us grow, too.
I'll be keeping a close eye on this new story of yours, Mad.
We'll see just what kind of awesome action you and Lucas can pull off c:

I think the main reason original works go unnoticed is that there's a lot less chance it will be found in the first place. People search popular things like Pokemon or Naruto or whatever all the time on the internet, but a lot less people will be searching for an original series specifically. Typically, the only way people on this site get well known for original stuff and didn't do some form of fanart before is either A: They've been on here for years B: They've posted their art on dA groups, Tumblr, Pixiv etc.
While I am glad that doing that by doing this nuzlocke since not only did it help me meet so many cool (and the occasionally not so cool) people, but it also helped me improve my art and perhaps my storytelling. If I were to have started with my original comic straight away, I would have barely 100 watchers and it would have been terrible (Honestly, my storytelling leaves a lot to be desired).Β
I'm not gonna say I only do fanart just so I can get more exposure, but I will submit to the fact that it has helped a lot with getting my work noticed and it will continue to up until the day I either stop or finish my nuzlocke. But by then I hope I would have gotten a fair amount of people on board that won't jump ship at the first sign of the Nuzlocke train leaving the station.
My only hope is by the time Red Madness is done and dusted, my original story will have been planned out enough to be a high enough quality to fill the gap left behind

Very good point taken. We love fanart because it's art of our favorite shows, or anime, or manga, and us as artists enjoy drawing them too. It lets us experiment and transform the "formula" of a set character to our liking.
Then there's the fact that fanart permits us to learn about body types, costume design, color theory, storytelling as you say, and overall prepares us for our own art.
But indeed, I am afraid of that too. People who won't look past fanart and for that some people won't come out of drawing only that... I've seen it way too many times orz
It really takes some guts to expose work of our own when the reception is so unresponsive >A<
So, my good Mad, I'm glad you're striving to get your own thing out and for it to be the best it can! One thing is for sure, I do thank fanart, for it can get us close to real gleaming artists. The thing is, after they've drawn out the attention, then it's time to get the sleeves rolled up! :U

He's pretty much as far an Anti-Hero as you can get before you have to drop the "hero" aspect. Honestly, the only reason he could be classed as a hero in this story is that his goals just happen to get in the way of the Villains goal.
He's generally grumpy and angry most of the time and many of actions he takes can be considered morally questionable. As for WHY he's like this. Well you'll just have to wait and see~

I like the third outfit. But I would like it even more if the undershirt was white, or even something lighter than it is now. There's just not enough color contrast and the current color too closely resembles the pants. But I love the design. <3

You're right, the second is too flashy. It also seems fairly impractical.
I like the first a lot, and would dig the third without the bandana. (Looks a little "soft" for the ruggedness of everything else about him.)
I am interested in this strange scar-marked character.
Also, that revolver is pretty legit.

Yeah I kinda went in knowing that the 2nd design wasn't gonna work. Just included it in for nostalgias sake cause that was the first design for him when I first created him about 5 years ago (He's changed a lot since then as you can see xD)
Glad you like the revolver. Thing took ages to draw.

Yeah this guy has been an OC that I've been creating and recreating for the last 5 or 6 years. And I would be lying if I said that Nero wasn't a bit of an inspiration at that time, as it still shows to that day with that arm.
Though A: He doesn't just have one mutated arm B: Its not actually of demonic nature (will explain later) C: It will actually be explained in-story and not in side notes that a large percent of the people will miss out on (LOOKING AT YOU CAPCOM!) xD

I personally like the image I get from the third design a lot more than the others, but the bandanna feels a bit off to me. It might work better with the shoes from the first design.
Then again, he looks fine in all of the outfits. I don't know what his personality is like yet, so the first or second one might match that better.
Thanks for sharing this, by the way. I can't wait to learn more.

Is that giant hunk of metal on the front of the gun a recoil compensator? Please say it's a recoil compensator.

....It is now //bricked
Well it was more of an extremely crappily drawn laser sight. This was just the first design that came to my head when making this, so it'll have plenty of redesigns.Β

Hehe. That works, I guess. Never been impressed with laser sights in games, but I've never used one IRL.
Recoil compensator would imply that it was a really, really heavy caliber weapon. heh.

I'm sold. I can't see any plots lines so I can't wait to see where you're going with this.Β
I like the outfits 1 and 3. Maybe you could combine them? (just a suggestion)
The 2nd one reminds me of something else (won't say what because some artists don't like that).

Mad-Revolution In reply to Gaioumon [2014-01-13 23:45:46 +0000 UTC]
An incredibly basic plot summary is that its a Revenge story with a lot of Grey moral choices.
Honestly, there were several things I was "inspired" *cough*Rippedoff*cough* by when I did the 2nd design. Honestly, I only included it cause that was the first costume I designed for him all those years ago when I made him.

Gotta say this really has my interest spiked. He kinda reminds me of my cousin with that snarly face though XD Revolvers...Favorite gun types after the Ak series simply because they cannot be outdated or screwed by EMPs and some of the can even use 50 cal rounds. Β Question:
Alright...is his species generally speaking down under in the Rings or Floating up in the clouds?
π: 0 β©: 1
Mad-Revolution In reply to DarkBlackArcanine [2014-01-13 23:43:50 +0000 UTC]
I can pretty much reveal that...
A: His species is like the absolute bottom of the social food chain. They're pretty much universally hated by most of the populace for many reasons
B: They are incredibly hostile and prone to fighting more than diplomacy, though this is less due to social reasons and more for biological reasons (I really need to make a species list or just a whole deviation dedicated to this species due to the important role they hold in the story so this brief explanation doesn't cover much)

Which I don't mind at all, considering since how I completely love your nuzlocke. So, I now get a double bonus, and no doubt the artwork isn't going to be amazing.
