Great photo! Β

[Also that kind of gourd is the tastiest! Β I prefer it roasted so that bits of it caramelize, flavored with Indian spices -- e.g. garam masala, made picante with spicy chilis, and pureed (along w/ mirepoix) into a soup. Β Finish the soup with a bit of cream and garnish with cilantro and maybe some croutons made of toasted cubes of baguette.]

as LΓΊcia says, pumpkin itself is bland, when we have pumpkin pie here it's flavored with cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg, and those spices are what people in america think of as "pumpkin flavor." you can get pumpkin flavor in your coffee at Dunkin Donuts! but there is no real pumpkin in there.

it seems i would love a pumpkin pie anyway (i love cinnamon)

lol, i would have to drink coffee before i can appreciate pumpkin coffee

! ( it's a bit dull, to be honest... maybe like a softer taste of carrots) i use it - rarely - in vegetable soups, but what i enjoy the most is the jam with little bits of nuts and a touch of cinnamon . it is also used in our seasonal "filhoses" Β www.google.pt/search?q=filhose…

OMG, that seems delicious!
now that you mentioned, i remember it's used here for jam too

wonderful color and texture and composition - and made from a pumpkin!

unlike our good friend, i do not find it the least bit disturbing

m-lucia In reply to RichardLeach [2013-12-09 23:37:51 +0000 UTC]

thank you, Richard!

i understand the "disturbing" interpretation... maybe because it looks a bit damaged... wounded...

sure - i see how that can be seen there - i used to do so much gardening that it doesn't bother me, it's just a little green and scratched - perfectly good pumpkin. it's when you make jack o'lanterns out of them and then they sit outdoors and freeze and thaw and get all smooshy that they're disturbing

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

m-lucia In reply to RichardLeach [2013-12-10 00:54:49 +0000 UTC]

well, that's much more disturbing, by all means...!

anyway, this was a fine pumpkin, i admit - perfectly good inside... and photogenic outside
