Hello again, journal app! Um, well, I’m in Baiguo. After some observations, I decided to relax a bit…Ayleth and Leader are really cool, but alone time is nice!

I don’t have much to do, so I resorted to my phone. Um, well, I guess I can talk about Baiguo. It reminds me a lot of where my family grew up. It’s just a little more..historical?

The temple is nice, but I rather be exploring…

Somehow, Zavia found themselves at the Town’s well after wandering around town for a bit. Their little ‘adventure’ couldn’t exactly reach far. Still, the area around the well was a nice place to relax. Children were attracted to the area; some played catch with a small ball while others played an elaborate game with colorful sticks. If Zavia looked closely, they could even see glimpses of phantasms darting around the kids. Of course, the children couldn’t see them. They already thought Zavia was weird enough for carrying around a seemingly empty bowl. Yet every time the ball fell into the well, they waited patiently for it to “magically” come back. Even if they couldn’t see the phantasms, the creatures seemed to be ingrained in their everyday lives.

This was a much better than the regal temple at least. Zavia had parked themselves a good distance from the well, enough where they could intervene if necessary. It’s not likely that any of the children would need their help. But it gave Zavia a sense of purpose.

After all, they had to do something with their time.

“Oh Xiang, when do you think everyone will come back?” Zavia patted their bowl with a sigh. The fish couldn’t exactly talk, so he made a small splash. Clearly, it was communication at its finest.

“Well, I’d imagine it would be a couple of hours. I guess we could stay here for a little longer…”

Time passed, the hours starting to blend together. Zavia sometimes joined their games, especially if they only involved dolls or drawing on the ground with a stick. Luckily for Zavia, it wasn’t too hard to communicate with them. The language was similar to their family’s back home. After a while though, Zavia found themselves getting drowsy. It became harder and harder to keep up with the children. Kids are always so rambunctious, where did they get that energy? Perhaps, then, nobody would mind if they closed their eyes for a few seconds…

“Oi! Wake up!” Someone had started to shake their shoulder. Zavia groggily opened their eyes. Wha..? The sun’s already setting? When did it get so late? They could barely make out the small boy shaking them. “You gotta get up! Jun ran off with your water bowl thingy!”

That was enough to shake Zavia out of their sleepiness. “W-what?! Who’s Jun?! I need to get Xiang back!”

The poor kid only had enough time to point out someone wearing bright orange clothes before Zavia sped off. Jun was running towards the marketplace. It wasn’t too crowded, though Zavia still had to dodge some last minute grocery shoppers. Luckily, most villagers naturally avoid someone with a strange metal vehicle that may or may not cause bodily harm.

“W-wait! Come back here! Jun! I need that!” Zavia yelled after the thief. All they got in reply was Jun turning around and sticking out his tongue. They would be mad if they weren’t more worried about Xiang’s wellbeing. The fish can tolerate Zavia running into walls, but in the hands of a stranger? Who knows what the brat could do! A sane kid wouldn’t even steal a bowl in the first place!

At the rate Zavia was going, they would probably never reach Jun in time. If only something, anything would help them out…

    BAM!

Zavia slow down to a break. For once, they weren’t the one who crashed into something. Instead, Jun had run into a blonde man. In seconds, the child quickly ran off, yelling something about a scary man. Zavia wasn’t sure what happened, but at least he left Xiang’s bowl behind!

They wheeled over to the man, offering a hand. “Um, are you okay?”

“Yeah, thank you,” He took their hand, allowing Zavia a clearer look of his face. No wonder Jun ran off, he was rather grumpy looking-wait a second.

“Oh! Y-you’re an exorcist student! From FAE!” Zavia looked to the side, avoiding eye contact. They’ve seen him before, though they’ve never talked to him. And what a horrible first impression they’ve made! “I’m so sorry! I don’t even know your name and I’ve already gotten you into trouble!”

On the other hand, the blonde looked rather startled. “It’s okay. Really. It’s Fenrir, by the way.” He paused. “Erm, what’s your name? You’re a tamer, right?”

His polite demeanor was not something Zavia expected. Who knew there were people like that in FAE? “Y-yeah! My name is Zavia. That’s my phantasm, Xian-”

They looked over to where Xiang’s bowl should be. It was in fact there, but Zavia wasn’t counting on it being on its side, bowl’s contents on the ground. Xiang himself was limply lying there, seemingly lifeless.

“OH MY GOD, XIANG! WE NEED TO GET YOU WATER!” Zavia scooped the bowl into their hands, before they practically threw the fish back in.“XIANG, STAY ALIVE FOR ME!”

If fishes were more expression, Xiang would show his discontent. He does not like being yelled at or getting thrown. Isn’t Zavia silly for not realizing he can tolerate being out of water for a while? Of course, Zavia couldn’t read that. Neither could the blonde exorcist, who was even more confused about the situation.

    “Zavia..?”

They ignored the exorcist’s plea in favor of clutching the bowl. Zavia could already feel tears starting to form. Tears could provide enough water, right?! Zavia couldn’t lose their best friend, they couldn’t! Someone had to protect them!

In their panic, they failed to realize that Fenrir had started to push the tamer through the marketplace. It took a while for Zavia to calm down enough to register that yes, they’re moving. There’s also a bird on their shoulder for some reason.

“O-oh! Oh my god, hello…” They gave the bird a small pat. She tweeted happily in reply.

“That’s Renai,” Fenrir stated. “We’ll get you water. It’ll be fine.”

Zavia sure hoped Fenrir was telling the truth. Of course he was. He had to be.

Zavia just wasn’t counting on their only source of water being from a balding man with a ridiculously long beard and walking stick. He also happened to speak Commons. The shared language actually made the situation even weirder. Who even was this guy anyway?!

“Sir, you’re saying you’ll give us water,” Fenrir raised an eyebrow. “If we get our fortune told?”

“Exaaactly! Step right up, fellows, I’ll predict the future of your pets and your love life!”

    “Pet? Can you see-”

    “Love life?! I don’t-”

“All I see is an empty bowl! And of course you need your love life told! So step right up and throw these sticks!” The man ggestured at a stack of blue and red sticks of varying lengths.

If the situation was any different, then Zavia would politely decline and roll away.  But Xiang’s life was in danger. Zavia would probably never throw sticks that enthusiastically ever again. They shoved another pile into Fenrir’s hands, forcing him to take part in the event.

The moment they threw the sticks, the old man handed over a pot of water. Zavia gladly took it, pouring it into Xiang’s bowl.

The fish lazily swam in a circle. Zavia almost wanted to cry.

“Oh, Xiang!” They hugged the bowl, Xiang looking slightly annoyed. “I’m so glad you’re safe.”

“Right…” Fenrir started, about to wheel Zavia away. “We should go now-”

“BUT WAIT!” The old man had jumped over his booth, blocking the path of the two students. “You must know your fortune! You, my dear boy!” He whacked Fenrir with his stick. “You will have a legacy of beautiful men and women at your side! Each one of them will worship your every move, lending their body if necessary! It is your destiny to fly the wings of the great bird and achieve your full potential! You will become king of the world!”

Renai tweeted happily, while Fenrir looked more freaked out every second.

“And you, my child!” Zavia ducked, avoiding the old man’s swing. “You will be the trainer of a great dragon! Your potential will be fulfilled when you find the great stone of mega evolution! You will tame the great beasts of the land!”

“Oh, so like in Mokepon-Eep!” Before Zavia could finish their sentence, Fenrir had started to push them away, darting through the crowd.

“REMEMBER YOUR POTENTIAL!” The old man screeched after them.

“I rather not,” Fenrir said, still running as fast as he could.

In what seemed like mere seconds, the duo were back at the temple. Zavia patted their hair down. That’ll be a pain to brush later.

“Um, well, thank you, Fenrir! I’m sorry for all the trouble I caused you…” They couldn’t ask for anyone better handled to help them out. Still, it was a little embarrassing.

“It’s no big deal-” Fenrir stopped mid-sentence, glaring at Xiang’s bowl.

“Fenrir? What’s wrong?” Zavia looked down.

In their haste, the water from Xiang’s bowl spilled out. Though there was a couple of inches left, it was nowhere near enough water to sustain the fish phantasm.

Fenrir sighed before wheeling them both into the temple. Under no circumstances are they going to ask old men for water ever again.

Kai says the two of them might want to rethink their plan of never asking an old man for water again.

Kai: *points to magical healing phantasm made of water*
