It is interesting how much Hiccup's size and stature play into how he was accepted in his tribe. Before he and Toothless fought the Red Death .....No one thought Hiccup had such potential. Then, he and Toothless defied all odds an beat the monstrous dragon, and brought peace to the island of Berk. And I think...Hiccup and the whole tribe...are even still, getting used to having Hiccup be acceptable in each others eyes...
I bet Hiccup even still has a hard time trusting others motives since he was so mistreated as a younling!

Before the movie, no one thought that a small, scrawny boy would become a brave viking. In their opinion, having immense strength and brawn was much more essential than having brains. They only treated Hiccup differently because he was basically the opposite of how vikings should look and be like. They thought of him as an embarrassment to all vikings because of this. Take the conversation Gobber and Hiccup had at the beginning of the movie:
"If you want to get out there, and fight dragons, you have to stop being all...this."
"But you just pointed to all of me!"
"Yes, that's it; stop being all of you."
Even his own father was ashamed of how his son turned out.
"By the time he could crawl he's always been...different."
But only after seeing Hiccup's true potential was when they thought: Wow, this kid ain't half bad, or something along those lines. He befriended the most feared dragon, fought the Red Death, and brought peace to the tribe. His father became proud of him when he realized what his son was capable of doing. Their bond grew stronger over the series and you can see how much he cares for his son. As for the other vikings, they're still having trouble with dragons but begin to count on Hiccup for his knowledge about dragons and courage to do anything for his tribe to keep the peace on the island. Even the viking teens are adjusting on having Hiccup in their group after all the trouble they had caused him.
(This is so LONG!!!)

Arrrr...are you mad? Yeah it's a "gif" -->graphics interchange format which means lots of layers (photos) saved as an animated picture! Does any of that garble make sense?
