Description The Northern Teritory bird emblem, the wedge tailed eagle, Australia's largest bird with a wingspan of 2.5m wide. Truely magnificent birds, my favourite raptor along with the sea eagle.

Erhermm **got carried away there** my first chalk pastel drawing ive ever done which ive put effort into. it was hard at the start cos i had troubles blending but after i got used to it, it became mangable to conquer. The black is done in charcoal, cos its alot finer than the pastels and i found it better to use, tho it doesnt blend with the pastels.

Im quite proud of this drawing, i think i might give it to my Nana 4 her b'day cos she is a bird lover, and i gave her a drawing two years ago so its a great improvement from the previous one.

I'm a bit late in discovering this, but I agree completely with the other comments.  Wonder, detailed, colorful.  The amount of work put into this has got to be awesome. Good job!

mum suggested i do more colourful birds for her so i ended up doing another drawing for her in the end since she prefers her parrots, but she likes this very much, but she liked the other i did for her better, as mum exspected, but i wasnt offended by her at all, since she is my nana

Hey my dear this is excellent work and I must say I love your pastels the most you really have a way with them. My mom has exhibited her pastel works in Melbourne and she solds heaps of them so I can't see why you wouldn't be a star if you did an exhibition too. I am amazed at the depth and competence of your work at such a young age. congratualtions on a job so very well done.

now another question.......the eyes....whats the secret to get them like that

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LyrebirdJacki In reply to AnimalsAndNatureClub [2008-12-05 05:48:06 +0000 UTC]

lots and lots of blending, i think with that one i did a rich colour and diluted it with yellow to give it that appearence

Zrcalo-Sveta [2008-08-30 04:37:59 +0000 UTC]

the wedge tailed eagle evolved from the golden eagle. they're both still very much related.

LyrebirdJacki In reply to Zrcalo-Sveta [2008-08-30 04:58:16 +0000 UTC]

wow i didnt know that, but isn't the golden eagle in scottland? how did it get to australia....

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Zrcalo-Sveta In reply to LyrebirdJacki [2008-09-22 02:09:55 +0000 UTC]

the golden eagle lives in north america, eurasia, and south africa. they believe that when austrailia was connected to africa (or asia) it went to australia. then being separated for thousands of years evolved into the wedge tailed eagle.
it's actually pretty fascinating.

wow thats cool, seems u watch plenty of random documentries lol like with the tasmanian tiger, people reckon it only existed in tasmania but up here in the Northern Territory there r aciceint paintings on the rocks of the tasmanian tigers so it might state they also were spread all over not just tasmania

Beautiful!! Love the shine (and man, you must be able to get some pretty sharp points on your pastels!!)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LyrebirdJacki In reply to corienb [2008-07-20 03:43:40 +0000 UTC]

yeah i like making it have sharp edges so its not chunky but im no good at sharpening the pencils at all cos they break alot so i had to use charcoal for the black and conte for some white tho i used white pastel for the main lot, conte just to give it the shine

corienb In reply to LyrebirdJacki [2008-07-29 17:33:50 +0000 UTC]
