Description I havent seen a Tawny in the wild since primary school, the last time i saw on was last year at the wildlife park, his name was Chopper lol. Dunno, they might be endangered where i live now? Just dont see them anymore.

For once i didnt start with the animal subject of the drawing surprizingly, i did the foreground of the paperbark first which was the majority of the time consumed, the bird itself must have been only 2-3 hours at most.....the feathers are like fur on Tawnies, if you ever get the chance to touch one its like a kitten. This drawing looks so much better in real life, i think its my best one yet, maybe a little overcrowded looking tho, will fix up that background later.

WARNING! THIS IS NOT AN OWL, ITS A NIGHTJAR! So many people mistake them for owls but they arn't, i'm paranoid when people get birds' names wrong

I haven't seen these guys in a long time, Tawny's are just interesting birds, I always say them in the trees in Primary. Mostly sleeping x3

Anyway, the background looks great, and I like how you did the paper bark trees, I love those trees, nice job ^^

You may have not seen them in a long time, but im sure they have seen you Clever little camo birds they are, the big golden eyes give them away most of the time

they always used to be at my primary too, havent seen them in years tho.

Paperbarks are one of my favourite trees

hmm your probably right about that XD

Even as it is I barley saw them because of their camouflage, shame cos they are very interesting birds.

They are lovely trees, they are fun to draw too.

well alot of people call them tawny frogmouth owls so i dont blame u for mistaking tawnies as owls, and besides, nightjars are similar to owls anyways i like the eye too, had been hanging out to colour it since i usually do them first, only got to it around the end of the picture

Lol oh ok, I've never even heard of nighjars til I read your description thing.

Hey, did you see my lorikeet painting? I'm going to get to your standard at making birds soon!

yeah i saw that painting, its getting real good, better start practising painting my birds now....tis hard you know?

Lol fair enough, not a big popular kind of bird really, i get these small brown spotted nightjars where i live, they look like they need a double-D sized bra and breast reduction cos the proportion of their boobies to their heads is so wrong: [link] i saw one at the wildlife park and its breast was puffed out worse than the one in the picture, funny birds tho

Lol no you don't have to do that

Lol it does too! It's head won't get tired cause it can just rest it on its boobs.

maybe they are just too good at camoflage for people to see, would make sense if u saw one while camping, just that i havent seen one for several years...

glad you like it

amzing!!!! i also saw a bird of prey once in my backyard like two years ago,it was a gorgeous american kestral.... it scared the crud outta my birds but i stayed in awe because i was only a foot away from it.

its amazing when you can get really close to wild birds, well wild animals altogether, an american kestrel would be amazing to see, i love their colours. I dont think the tawny frogmouth is much of a bird of prey, its not in any bird of prey books i've picked up, mainly eating moths and insects, dont even think they eat mice. There used to be a pair of these birds at my old Primary school, they used to sit very still and watched my friends and I huddle around, until his tree got cut down of course which was a shame, never saw one in the wild after that. sorry for the long comment, had to rant on about it

would have been good, tho some of the most impressive things we see will never be recorded by camera but in our minds, i got plenty of amazing things i have seen and none have been photograpthed, tho i bet i can draw some of the ones i know more clearly. I saw i big wild buffalo a few weeks ago on a camp while driving, i hadnt seen a wild one since i was 7, and after i got to the campsite i saw the most amazing lanscape which i did manage to get photos of actually (might put a few up).

i've seen an australian kestrel only 3 times, just like the american ones but dont have the pretty colours, kinda plain orange, tho all the ones i've seen are greyish

This is lovely. I love the way the bird's hiding.
The foliage and background look very nice - I think you're improving, chicken.

that was the point of the drawing these birds are well known for their camouflage: [link] but i kind of failed at doing that, i should have done him with his eyes closed and more branches to make him harder to see, just couldnt help myself not doing an eye i think i may be improving, you definatly are anyways
