Ah Xemnas, a villain who has a lot of hype and praise...but ironically turned out to be pretty dull. I've always been mixed about this guy.

Of course. He's a Nobody. Once you get past all their swagger, there's not much to them... Which I think is intentional, yeah?

That is the irony, but I honestly got that more from Saix. He doesn't pull any bullshit of trying to display any emotion, and compared to Xemnas, I REALLY wanted to deck Saix in the face. Saix to me is that perfect embodiment of what a nobody is. Its just with Xemnas's performance (not just Paul St. Peter but also his Japanese V.A.) its just so melodramtic and hammy that it just did not work me with his appearance, build up and power. And even when he isn't trying to trick others by showing "emotion", I STILL can't take him seriously with that performance and tone. Didn't help too that unlike Ansem: SOD who wanted to have all the worlds engulfed in darkness, he was really close too as a LOT of worlds did end up that way. Xemnas's plan before the big reveal in DDD was making his own kingdom hearts so he can use it to, what else? Take over the world.
"OF COURSE!"

I agree with you there. Ansem was a much more compelling villain than Xemnas. I think that was intentional, though. When KH1 was developed, Xehanort's back story wasn't fleshed out. Xemnas was introduced as a "stepping stone" adversary to the more significant Xehanort. In DDD, he's reduced to little more than a henchman in the Evil Time Brigade, though he's probably not happy about it... It's not a very strong point in KH's story, but, eh, like I said, it's meant to lead up to something else.
If they wanted to make Xemnas more appropriately represent "nothingness," then he should've been more nihilistic, like FFV's Exodus/Exdeath... But that would've made him too interesting.

That is true there, whereas if KH1 was the only game to be made if it didn't do well, Ansem: SoD would've been the only villain we had that is legitimately creepy and ultimate powerhouse. Plus unlike Xemnas who was trying to create his own Kingdom Hearts, Ansem SoD came the closest to reaching the true Kingdom Hearts. Even Master Xehanort didn't accomplish that when he's been focused on using the X-blade to get into Kingdom Hearts. Even in DDD where he's in the same spot as Xemnas, he was more effective to me with how he was trying to manipulate Riku than Xemnas was to Sora, he even lasted longer for a boss fight and was much harder on my end.
Hell, at least Exdeath doesn't pull any "feel sorry for me" BS that Xemnas did even if that was just an act itself. He was hammy, but Exdeath knew that he was and embraced it lol

Yes, he just went on and on, and actually, Marluxia's regular form was harder for me than the final fight.

Kinda mad that his whole "Something something NOTHING" speeches were literal BS in the story....
