Haha, thank you very much!
I made the pattern based on my size though. So I suppose that makes sense.

Can't really explain that I guess. I mostly just do. I cut paper with scissors and then see if I can make it work.
Thank you!

hey!

I love your gallery, you give me a lot of inspiration!
I work with leather too, sometimes. I was wondering how you etch the patterns into the leather? I mean the dark lines.
I use a burner myself, but it makes the leather crumble and takes away the flexibility..

thanks!!

Lynfir In reply to Erowyne [2011-05-10 20:45:45 +0000 UTC]

Hello!
Thank you very much! I make patterns in leather using a knife for the basic shapes and then hammering them out with a, well, hammer, and some stamps with a sloped edge.

I don't use a burner for it cracks and destroys the leather. I have a method of painting in which I hand paint the work with a type of leather dye and using water, oil and/or coatings that in a way make the paint pull in the leather more so that the edges darken. I sincerely have no idea how it works, and it took quite a long time to get a handiwork in it. It was a method I thought of myself after quite a lot of experimenting. I think you should try it, the effects of that can be interesting and vary quite a lot every time. The painting is one of the most interesting and the most scariest part of my projects, for I have no clue if I might mess it up as I don't use proper general painting techniques.

Lynfir In reply to britmcc [2010-11-18 21:31:55 +0000 UTC]

Um, I don't usually have patterns on the internet, no. Mostly because I've found myself that when other people have uploaded patterns on the internet before, they have never been of great use to me since you get difficulty with the scaling.
Amd when doing a bra type of thing though, I recommend the quirky way of standing infront of a mirror with a piece of paper and cut it until it fits. It's a kind of a dodgy way to do things, but it's a good way to construct a good pattern.
Thank you for the compliment on this! Glad you like it.

Ah well thank you anyway :] i guess i can just try that way. I just really liked the way you pieced it all together and wanted a basic design to follow for the chest piece im going to be making. But its totally ok if you dont want to post it, i dont mind at all. Do you happen to know of any good websites that do have some patterns? I've been having alot of trouble finding some.

Um, I don't, no. I never really look any patterns up as I tend to make them myself. Patterns over the internet don't work so well for me. You're specifically looking for a bra-type of pattern? something that could also work is to buy a patterned bikini and cut it.

Oh you! I love your stuff!
Can you actually adjust the straps? That’s genius if so.
Did you go by a regular bra for pattern? I think I need to start in on leather work as soon as I can afford some scrap leather. This s just too fucking awesome.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Lynfir In reply to red20 [2010-11-04 18:43:25 +0000 UTC]

Hehe, thank you!
You can adjust the straps, yes. It's something I thought up in the meanwhile as it might be usefull. I can't really be sure that it fits 100% right untill there's nothing I can do about it anymore. And straps tend to be a tricky case.
I didn't use a regular bra pattern, actually. Seeming as most bra's come, well, pre-moulded. You never have a proper pattern in them. I started off cutting up an old bikini that did have somewhat of a fold in it but it turned out looking rather ugly.
So, basicly, I guess I should advise doing it in a quirky provisional type of way.
Which is standing infront of the mirror with a sheet of paper and cut it until you're happy with it. (It sounds a lot less professional and un-official, but I guess it's the best way to go. )
I think you should do that! I'm curious to see what you come up with!

red20 In reply to Lynfir [2010-11-06 01:47:27 +0000 UTC]

Ah, thank you so much for the tips, that’s actually really helpful.
That’s probably the easiest way to go.
Unless you have really big/heavy breasts I suppose. I guess that’s definitely a plus for a smaller size here. ;D
Cool, cool. I will do as you say and start with a paper model first.

Lynfir In reply to red20 [2010-11-08 09:51:41 +0000 UTC]

Then it would probably be a bit tricky, yes.
Good luck on that then!

Haha! Well, I might be, just a little.. I did paint my back aswell actually, or well, I've had some help on that. I think pictures can look very stupid if the paint just stops somewhere. I think I'll upload the back pictures of it later if you'd like to see them. It has quite a nice buckle on it actually.
Thank you!
