Description
An awesome piece of earth at German "Ostsee" is the Isle of Ruegen.
The beech you are looking at here is only one of some hundred in phantastically figures grown tree individuums inside a small territory, called "Nordufer Wittow mit Hohen Dielen", the official name of the so named "Naturschutzgebiet" (strongest category in Germany for nature protected areas).
Planted over a period of many decades to protect the coast after middle-age destruction of forests today you have a narrow strip of incredible beautifull coastal beech forest in these coastal range. As said - parts of it are still young, perhaps 40 years old with straight shafts....but some are rather old, perhaps 150 years and more and the trees there are looking like fairytail figures - the reason, why they told a little forest there "Märchenwald".
