Hey, at least you CAN do backgrounds! XD I should really do colour pencils drawings soon, haven't been using them for ages.
You're really getting better at horses, but try to work a little more on the anatomy and eyes. ^^ Eyes are important. Other than that, this piece is a big leap for ya!

Well, I'm not exactly in a position to insist there's something wrong with the anatomy and eyes if you don't think so, am I? *shrug* It's not that serious actually, but there are some errors with the anatomy which I'll leave you to find out. XD As for the eyes, i'm only suggesting stuff from my own experience (you know, like bigger eyes than in real life and lotsa details) cos how you draw eyes to compliment the mood you want for the picture is really important.
I'm not trying to change your style though, these are just a few helpful suggestions. ^^ Keep working!

*shrugs* I try to draw what I see but the pic i used for reference was a bit dark so I couldn't really see the eyes... but i don't usually draw big eyes

no, you see i was trying to duplicate this colour of the sky from another pic and the sky i have now just isn't right and after I lined it and coloured the horse, I realised that I forgot all about the movement of the sand when one walks/trots over it... but thanks anyway
