Description Content-related design/idea by ~Varion2 – artistic realization by me. Do not use without written permission!

Sorravas is the capital of Rawderian - created as the starting point and background for a RP-campaign.
Grown rich and arrogant by an endless stream of goods and tributes from the harbor and the great trade routes meeting in a village near the capitol, only the limited supply of water (provided by the city’s aqueduct) impaired the capitals ambitions to become the center of an entire world.
A city of tremendous political struggles between the imperial government, the state church, the merchant barons, the realms aristocracy and the legions of normal citizens (each well secured in their own city quarters), the city stands before the greatest challenges in its history.

Do you make something like that in Photoshop? Or is there specialized cartographic software?

I have 'just' started doing maps for an Rp campaign. My hat's off to you, this is absolutely stunning work. I only hope to be able to produce half the quality...-bows-

With that said. Would you have any solid advice for an advanced photoshop user, when it comes to making maps from scratch?

Thank you! My best advice is to join the Cartographer's Guild www.cartographersguild.com , you can find tons of tutorials, a friendly community and helpful advice to your work. And besides that: Just practice.

I'm absolutely baffled by the artwork - really! I wish I was able to create such stunning cityscapes. I have one question though: Why would the city need an aqueduct, when the river that's feeding it is just a stone's throw away? Is there such a height difference? Seems to me both the river bank and the city are roughly at sea level, so a simple channel would have been sufficient, it seems!

Still, I'd like to repeat my remark about the baffling beauty of this city map. This is of a rare beauty.

Thanks for the praise
The city was designed by the commissioner, but maybe the inhabitants are using the waterfall at the end of the aquaeduct for waterpower? Or maybe they built it just to show off Really, I don't know.

Hammer!
