Description Everybody is doing it. I just wanted to be cool.

But seriously, This is a really good meme from pixiv in case you want to draw your characters or official ones in different styles. Forgive me for the crappy doodles but I didn't think of the size before I started making the drawings. And then I payed the price for it...

And I am also aware that Link is an overrated choice right now. I just chose him because I don't care.
...Ok I do. It's something to make up for the whole, "Zelda 25th Anniversary" thing I missed.

Normal Style:
I usually draw him like this, except less sketchy. It was a quick doodle, really.

Realism Style:
Oh dear God...
I am not exactly happy with this one. It's not that great an attempt for realism but I tried hard on this one. A couple of hours to get it just "right". You be the judge of this one for now but I plan to remake it sometime in the future. Also, I have no idea why he looks like this: It just happened. You tell me.

Pop Style:
A crappy attempt at a Pop style. However, unlike the realism one I should have been able to pull this off. Now I do not know if the person who made the meme ment pop, as in, a specific style of a franchise, or pop art in general. Pop art in general isn't all bad, though. It grew on me.

In case you don't know what Pop Art is here are some examples.

Moe/Cute Style:
Reason why I got into anime as a kid, yet I ironically don't draw it much. I think I did an alright attempt here.

Old Manga Style:
Let me just adress something I noticed with this part of the meme. Is it just me or are people confusing Old Manga with the Shoujo style? If all old Mangas were like that then the Dragonball Z Mangas would have the protagonists look like a bunch of pansies!
Ah whatever. It's probably just my nitpicky nerdiness talking. XD I am not saying this to get on anyone's case, it is just something I noticed.

Ero-Game Style:
LOL I think this one's my favorite.

I am sorry but I just had to make an Old Spice reference here. Ether that or draw something really bland because I am normally not one of those people who enjoy hentai.

Aww come on! He's still naked! lD

For those who dn't get the reference go here: [link]

Shounen Style:
Not half bad, but the arm looks a little weird.

Shoju Style:
I feel the same about this one as the shounen style, except I should have made Link's face longer. I am used to giving him a roundish face. I nailed it on the sweater, though.
By the way, I am not a big fan of a scrawny looking Link in general. I like him somewhat beefy. XD

Mii Style:
I personally like this one. I know I should have done better on the shading to make Link look less flat, but overrall, it's not too bad.

Doraemon:
I never heard of the show, but from what I can gather it's a kids show about a bunch of kids and a cat...Alright, I know that's a shitty description from my part, but I am not that familiar with it. I did somewhat ok on the style but could have put more on it.

How d'you do the mii one?

LunarMew In reply to OliKan [2011-03-11 18:16:56 +0000 UTC]

Sorry I took a while to reply.

I used photoshop elements 6 for these drawings, including the Mii one. Not a real 3D model, but I wish I had a 3D program. XD

1. It involves a "stacking" process. I had a seperate layer for the head, a separate layer for the body, another one for the hair, another one for the ears, one for the pants, one for the feet, and one for the face. Then I put the layers in the according order.

2. I used no lineart for this. Just messing with the shape tool.

3. I used white and black for shading and lighting. I also used the soft brush tool for shading and lighting. If I used the hard brush it might have made the Mii like a flat drawing instead of a mock up of a 3D model of a Mii.

4. Don't forget to put the black color (shading) and the white color (lighting) in the right places. It really helps to lock the transparency on the layers you are working on. I am probably repaeting myself, but seperate layers, obviously, help too. A lot. Don't make the same mistake I did, when I merged the layers I needed to work with, only to have to go back to them.

5. Eye Dropper tool also helps along with the black and white toeven the colors out.

Hope that helps.

Okay... Thanks.
That's really good, cause it really looks like 3D.

Anyway, if you want a free 3D program, there's Blender [link] I use it when I need to make stuff like it cause I didn't know Photoshop enough to think about all that by myself! XD

With the tutorials you can find anywhere, you'd learn it pretty quickly. Took me an afternoon to learn about all what I know now. ..And that was more than 3 years ago!
Here's a really good tutorial my friend made : [link]
I don't even know all what he shows in it! lol-again
