Nice composition! You might want to consider ring flash or a dual-speedlight setup if you'd having a lot of trouble getting more light in your macro shots. Those can really help you get everything frozen in place with almost as much DoF as you care for.

I like how you've intersected the frame with petal (I think?) and you've got all the negative space really focusing us on the little green chap. The clarity is excellent, I see this was taken at 50mm, was that on a fixed or telephoto lens?

Thanks for the feedback, yea the goal was to get the pedal coming out from the corner of the frame. I used a 24-105mm ef L series with kenko extension tube. Its hard to get good focus with any low light so need a fast shutter to hold things still but I have a 100mm ef L series on the way so that should make macro a lot easier for me!

i remember trying to catch grasshoppers when i was younger. it was pretty much impossible to sneak upon them unseen. i could only catch them right after they landed and were too tired to jump right away.

"This insect looks as if it has evolved to watch its own back while feeding." TRUE!!
It's also the first CUTE grasshopper I've ever seen.
