I've been very hard on myself most of my drawing career because I never knew how to take drawings beyond the sketch stage and so of course my things never looked as polished as the final drawing on the right. Now that there are so many people teaching how they draw I am still constantly amazed how many times something that is very pretty in the final draft was once a rougher sketch, and it gives me encouragement to keep learning and refining

You know, I almost feel like the sketchier one would attract a bigger PAX audience. The people there are likely looking for something different, and the final one almost feels too commercial in a way! Just what was going through my head when I looked at them.
I can't wait for Hat in Time. I did the Kickstarter, but not all the way at the Beta/Alpha levels so I sit here on my hands waiting waiting waiting for the day to arrive! The wait is definitely a tough one!

Absolutely. I am myself a fan of seeing the artist's hand in work anyway, but I feel like in your rougher work you have some natural instinct for where stuff might be best placed, and sometimes it's lost in the cleaned-up work (not always, just sometimes). In my own work, that's usually because I think too much when trying to clean up perfectly, ha ha. Anyway, lovely stuff. I never cease to be excited when you post the early roughs and sketches.
