Description This is Sligachan Bridge, I wasnt really blessed with any good weather when i passed this bridge, overcast, dull, however it seems every photographer who visits Skye has a go at it so i didnt want to pass up the oppertunity!
So to counteract the boring weather i thought i'd have a go at a long exposure, but it is not the water that i was looking at, but the clouds!
I think cloud long exposures is something I'l start experimenting more with, something new to explore, bring on those windy days!

camera: canon 350d
lens: 18-55mm
location: Isle of Skye
month: February
weather: overcast

thanks everyone! xoxo

edit: some of you said it was too soft so i added the sharpen filter in PS, is that common practice for most? its something i don't do so maybe i should start sharpening all my photos?

I don't know about PS but when I resize photos with Print Shop Pro they always turn out looking softer than the original so I sharpen them after resizing to get back the original look.

Depends on the mood of the photo whether sharp or soft looks better.

Beautiful shot

Regarding your question about sharpening, it's not universal, although it's becoming more common. Often, it's overused, and you end up with something totally unrealistic. You seem to have avoided that bugaboo, here.

Was the cloudy weather a curse or a blessing?
You never would've gotten to try long exposure on the clouds, you know..

I can't get over the vivid colours in these Scottish photos - or maybe this is what it is really like over there, I don't know.

Reminds me of LotR.. I like that Great use of long exposure!

Oh and I don't think you should sharpen all of the photos. I think the ones with dramatic atmospheres (like this one) look better sharp, but something more delicate and subtle (such as your drop pictures) look really beautiful just as they are now.

How long was the exposure? Because I find when I do them in daylight I just get a big white image of nothingness because too much light gets in!

Any tips? It's a great shot

lucias-tears In reply to nisciocco [2007-09-05 16:22:06 +0000 UTC]

do you put you aperture right up? i do, to at least 20, that stops light more. failing that get a ND filter, they block out loads of light

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

nisciocco In reply to lucias-tears [2007-09-05 20:23:12 +0000 UTC]

Yeah...I will try that next time definitely..and have wanted an ND filter for ages...damn student finances!

Thanks for taking the time to reply, I know you have tons of these to get through! x

I wish I could express to you how I feel like I am falling into the scenery when I look at this picture. Quite honestly, such is a place I recognize, not in reality, but a place that my mind seems to venture toward when I feel I am in need of peace. It's a beautiful picture you have there. It really is. ^_^
