Hehehe Sumar's B-Day is the same as mine XD He got a cake though... I got a yucky Shamu cookie. The whipped cream has like no sugar. Anywho, Sumar got a chocolate cake. And yes it's a real cake, no fish. The trainers eat it too. But think of it in body mass. To us that's like eating a teaspoon of sugar. It's nothin' other then *chimp, swallow... mmm that was a nice flavor*©Ruka 5-14-06

Though I don't like the idea that they feed the orcas with chocolate (I think a cake made of some fish or crabs would be better for animals than sugar or chocolate) I like the photo, it looks funny.
Since the cake-feeding happens only once a year its okay with me.

Eh it's no biggie. If it were the vets would say no. Cause any add or subtraction in their diet is run by the vet or the person in charge of their diet. Yeah fish or crab cake would technically be better, but wouldn't taste as yummy. What used to happen was the orcas got part and the trainers got the rest. Guess it doesn't happen like that anymore.

But I know that some people cannot stop to feed their pets unhealthy things, peices of sugar for horses or part of the meal for their dogs and that happens every day. Just wanted to be sure that it doesn't happen like this with the orcas.
(I admit, that I also sometimes feed my budgies potatoe chips or a salt stick but as I said it only happens once in a while so they stay healthy.)

I'm one of those guilty people. But I never feed my dog a large amount of "people" food and it's NEVER anything that's totally unhealthy. Usually it's bits of meat or egg. Worse case a noodle, which is just carbs. lol million dollar whales, I bet they have the best diet and people in charge that anyone could ask for.

how much does one orca cost? 15 million? I once read somewhere that one orcas was sold for about 17 million dollars if I remember right, but I am not sure, and maybe they are now even more expensive?

Each orca (depending on a lot of factors) on adverage is insured up to 1 million dollars. To my understanding it is.

Yeah they switched to the smaller cakes for some reason, less work, smaller cake to deal with. And they can give it to them all at once... who knows Cause Kalia got the same kind, only she didn't get the whole thing. But the last cake I saw before that was the big one and they only gave a bit of it to Sumar.
