I'm glad the operation happened, too.Β It was an important step to ending the war.
Sorry, history idiot here.Β History and politics always confuse me.Β In school, we basically learned about America's role in WWII, especially America and England invading Normandy on D-Day.Β We didn't go into Russia or other details, so there's still a lot I don't know about.Β Hetalia taught me more world history than my history classes and textbooks did.

I know about Hetalia not being historically accurate.Β To me, it's historical fiction, separate from the real world.Β I like to keep fact and fiction separate.
What I meant is that there were many historical topics mentioned in Hetalia that I've never heard of, mostly because they were never mentioned in my history classes or textbooks.Β For example, I don't recall hearing about Holy Roman Empire or Prussia until I watched Hetalia.Β I might have heard about them, but forgot since history was never my thing.Β It's the same with Opium Wars.Β My schools covered very little world history.Β The first time I heard about North and South Italy, Hundred Years War, War of Austrian Succession, Sino-Japanese War, Anglo-Japanese Alliance, Russo-Japanese War, and Boxer Rebellion were in Hetalia.

I feel ashamed I don't know this, but can you please tell me in one sentence what happened that day? >.<

Oh, I didn't know so many people would help me, you're so nice! >.< I thought nobody really would care to explain since "how can you be so dumb you don't know" and such. I'm more busy with my own country's history but next year I'm supposed to learn about D-Day again!

In short the Allies (mainly British and American forces) launched the largest landing force in history and conquered several major beach heads in Northern France. Thanks to the success of the landings the Allies were able to carry out the liberation of France from Nazi rule.

D-Day is a short term for the Normandy landings during 6th of June 1944. Basically, Germany was trying to invade several places of the Allies during World War II and failed after getting beaten by the British and Americans
