I love the high contrast use of the blue pencil on this one - was this non-photo blue by any chance?
Does anyone even use non-photo blue pencils anymore? heh. I used to use them quite a bit when I had access to a line art camera and darkroom in the 80's-early 90's. I remember they weren't fantastic for actually drawing.

Great homage, Loston! Loved THE SPIRIT, and this is a nice job capturing it.

Gah! Those archives books are so expensive, it's a pain to my heart knowing they're out there and financially out of reach!
Gah!
Gah!
You know, I was just thinking, The Spirit would make a good childrens activity book character...

Yay! I love the spirit, great work! God i wish they'd do an animated series in the vein of the original 90s batman animated series. THAT would rock.

A SPIRIT animated series would be tremendously cool--especially if they placed it in the 1940s or '50s, or at least did the time period as ambiguous, like with the BATMAN ANIMATED series.

I'm all for ambiguous since that's what Darwyne Cooke and Tim Sale are doing for the recent updates (which i adore and should me the gateway to eisner's great work).
Also this title has inspired me to seek out similar things. I'd read ALL of Stan Lee's Blonde Phantom. It's not wonderful, but for the time period it's entertaining enough. I certainly would love to see marvel do something like DC and The Spirit with her. So much so i've been playing with some script ideas to do it myself and who knows someday toss em a pitch (if i ever get an audience with em, heh, who knows).
BTW, did you see Frank Miller is directing the new THE SPIRIT film? It will be in Sin City Style. ... not sure how i feel about that. I realize he worked with Eisner and as close with him, but the guy can't write women without making them coked out hookers. This does not bode well, although i've been wrong before (also i'm a bit disappointed that it will be in B/W simply because a color scheme like Dick Tracy could have rocked it so much more, but what can ya do).

From what I hear the only way you can possibly enjoy that movie is if you pretend that NONE of it is supposed to be taken seriously... Even when it is...
