Description I knew one once, in silence lived
To dream a dream, he knew, alone.
He saw the world as none may see
Through eyes he might yet call his own.

From all the world, he stood apart,
And lived as one, where few could know -
For few men stray from time-worn roads
To paths where thoughts soft-treading go.

He’d gods his own – he worshipped free - ,
And scripture written not in verse,
For spirit knows what cannot tell,
‘Less knowledge witness wisdom’s birth.

At journey’s end you’d think it found –
Those truths left still unknown to man,
But truth, you’d find does not there wait,
For no true road does come to end.

Alone will be the thinker’s way;
For what he wish, he knows it must -
To see as one apart from all
A man must let this age be lost.

These thoughts, alone, he told me once,
Though wordless was the thinker’s plea,
To understand what few then could,
To break from world’s conformity.

Perhaps by Time he was not held,
Nor yet by mortal life confined,
Of another world perhaps he came,
From distant land or ancient time;

For something aged within him lived –
An ancient truth man long forgot,
Ere coming of the modern age,
Though hidden still, truth lost is not.

stumbled upon your poem serching for pics to put in my power point on transcendentalism. i must say i rather enjoyed it and if you have not read any works by trascendentalists especially emerson you should. Emerson would suit you best.

I'm responding from my other account.. because I haven't checked this one in forever and forgot my password But in any case, I have indeed read poetry by Emerson. I was reading quite a lot of his work around the time I wrote this one... I think at the time my favorite of his was "Each and All".

Why thank you
I'm glad that I have finally gotten over the writer's block I was in for the past few months.

It's a very lovely poem.
Anyone can interpret themselves as a part of the poem. for a little while I could begin to see myself ^_^

Thank you.

I suppose everyone does have a part that they keep to themselves, apart from the world, so to speak. Searching for meaning in life...

Yes, that's my comment. Having discussed this before, you know my thoughts.

Raise the barricade. *faints*

um.. thank you! Yes I know your thoughts. You know my thoughts too..

Raise the barricade? Strangely enough, I understand why you said that. That was indeed a memorable day. And the other conversations from then do relate to this ("seceding from modern life").

I have one thing to say : The runes. I wonder if anyone else ever knew what they said...
