wow thank you! err i dunno i always thought i sucked at textures ^^' i just kinda of used a different brush on photoshop i guess.... but then i use that for the skin too so i'm not really sure xD

How would you compare photoshop to Gimp? I'm wondering if maybe I'm doing something wrong or using the wrong tools. Would I have more options with PS?

hmm.. i don't know if i'm the best to ask for this. i've never used gimp and have only ever used photoshop and this other one that's practically the same as photoshop (besides trying SAI for a bit). i've heard Gimp is very similar to photoshop though. personally i don't use many tools when i draw - basically just the paintbrush, eraser and smudge tool (because i have no idea what anything else does xD). i just put everything on different layers like most people do, paint them in blocks and smudge them where i want to, so i don't really do anything complex if that helps ^-^. tbh i don't think you can really go wrong with gimp or photoshop or anything, i'd say your style is more cell style colouring (blocks of single colours, like in most anime or cartoons) whereas i have this obsession with shading everything which is a different style. but about the options thing, i'm pretty sure you'd get more options on photoshop since Gimp is a free program and obviously less stuff on it that photoshop, the question is whether you'd actually need all those options - half the things i see on it i think i'd probably never use xD so it's basically up to you, i'd suggest keep going with gimp unless you really want to get photoshop (does cost a lot though). Keep trying different things like varying tone or messing about with layers or any tools you want to try, you end up finding some things work better than others ^-^ just whatever you're comfortable with.

Thanks! Shading has always been a total weak point for me, you definitely got me there. Perhaps I should use bolder colors and tones next time. I dunno. Thanks though, that was very insightful! I'll see what I can do in the future

you're very welcome! glad i could help ^w^ i forgot to say before but the thing that really helps me is finding artists or pictures I REALLY like and basically trying to draw like them. tutorials always help too but the tone thing isn't really a bad thing, i'm not very good at not making everything dark or bright xD it's just whatever you like, so if you prefer lighter pictures then don't make them dark but if you want to make them really bold or dark or bright or whatever then go for it! xD

Heehee thanks! I'm just exploring really. Drawing's more of a hobby than anything, I'm more of a musician than anything. But I love getting opinions from artists and learning from them. Thanks for your time and whatnot, really is appreciated!

ah i understand, it used to be just my hobby and i used to play sport all the time, but now i want to do something with it and become and animator or a concept artist (hopefully) xD. But you play music!? cool! i've always been jealous of people who can play music xD *can't even read music* and you're very welcome! ^-^ if you need any more help just ask and i'll try and help you as much as i can :3 i mean i'm pretty inexperienced but it's sometimes a bit scary trying to ask for help from the really professional artists out there ^^'

Haha I'll keep that in mind! I always liked drawing and stuff but I could never take it too seriously. I'm a composer through and through and through, and always will be. I'll make sure to come back if I ever have anymore questions though! And of course I'll look for your work in the future to enjoy and tell my friends.

yeah it depends on what you like better i guess, i had to quit my main sport so drawing became the only thing i really had going xD but wow composing!? *even more impressed* xD lol really? thanks! totaly don't need to do that just for me but thank you anyway xD and thanks for commenting!, i always like trying to help people with art for some reason o.o
