Because they were too difficult for people who like quick scoping, and fast paced action. Battlezone is pretty fast paced... but not every minute. Sometimes, you need to take it slow, and careful. Besides, people just want to shoot the bad guys, not worry about having to deal with building your base, resource collection and army managing... while shooting the bad guys yourself as a pilot. Two things at once.
With Mechwarrior, it's a simulator, and a different one. You need to consider so much when it comes to mechs, slots, tonnage, heat, firepower, armour. Plus, you had to understand how mechs worked, losing an arm, a leg, and all that greatly affects the gameplay. Too much thinking.
I got nothing about Heavy Gear.

Heavy Gear is almost identical to the style of mechwarrior, just a smaller mech that is more humanoid, amazing storyline, PERFECT music and the small mechs in it are so personified they seem like large soldiers. So if they wanted to take that series and make it fast paced and basic they could but it would take away a bit from the original style.
Oh yeah and the mechwarrior 2/battlezone engine was used to make the game!

Well, Mechwarrior DID receive an arcade style adaptation, MechAssault. Reasonably good games, but a lot of MechWarrior fans don't like it due to how it plays, and other things.

I loved mechassault but I would have changed a minor handful of things about it, however the second mechassault had a WAY over the top star foxish ending. Like...waaaaaaaaay over the top, it strayed too far for me BUT I definitely enjoyed those regardless of my fellow mech fans insults on it. lol
Seriously though, Korn music playing while you fight a half built skeleton that crawls around shooting lasers out of its eyes, purple balls while slapping the ground like donkey kong and you have to crack open its skull to expose a glowing brain to destroy through neurohacking and such. lol, I LOVED the destruction, effects, weapons, missions and some of the characters but I did not enjoy that boss battle. (I think the mainstream lyrical Korn music threw it off for me lol) It took more of a step into the gundam style than I would have liked it to but whatever. But don't get me wrong though, even though I loved managing ammunition Mobile Field Bases and such I DID enjoy the satisfying feeling of picking up weapon power ups.
I still can't get over how awesome the building destruction was for a 2002 game, spot on, very well done for an old xbox game even today.

Yeah, MechAssault was a decent game, and it could be a little tricky at times too.
