Description Version 1 of that really old fleet pic which I said I would finish but never did. Edited while my current earbuds decided to randomly stop working in the left ear after just 5 days of use (this happened to my last 4 pairs, but those each lasted at least half a year) so that kind of sucks.

Anyway, the story of this image is that this would be either one of 2 possible scenarios, both canon to my Stratocracy AU:

Option One: This is a rendezvous point for the Hominid Imperial Navy for all the forces which they could muster within the constraints of the Slipspace reconciliation jamming set up by the Forerunners, and they are preparing to make their last stand in a glorious show of unity and grim resolve, that unfortunately has played out far too many times during the Didact's millennium-long campaign to reach Charum Hakkor. After centuries of constant desperate and grueling warfare, the ships of Humanity are weathered grey butchers whose weaponry and design allow them to slaughter larger and better-equipped Forerunenr warships in droves with abandon. For every Hominid raider or corvette lost, scores of Foreunner picket and automated weapon vessels are destroyed. For every wretched hulk of Hominid battleship or carrier vanquished, hundreds of Forerunner capital ships and gleaming battlestations are mauled and evicerated to oblivion. And for evey one of the abominable Prime Dreadnoughts whose maws are forever sealed, Forerunner forces in strengths that would blot out the sun over worlds would be disintegrated by eldritch lightning. However, in the end, for every ship or weapon that the Hominids brought low, a score more would eagerly fill in the gaps in the Forerunner advance. To imagine the numbers at which such battles were fought across galactic fronts, like trench warfare sectioned not by hills but by gigaparsecs, would see one so blined by the scale of such war that lesser civilizations would have described it as a War in the Heavens between Angry Gods, a Primordial clash of Angels and Demons or any other such grandiose interpretations. Such war would have been seared into the memories and histories of uncounted species for tens, possibly hundreds of millennia to come had the Halos not wiped out nearly all those species and wiped the memories of thsoe who were preserved.

Despite the immaculate shattering and isolating of the Hominid Dominion by the Didact's martial intellect, in this chosen void between stars, millions of warships from swift destroyers and strike cruisers to looming battlecruisers and dreadnoughts lathered with weapons batteries to lumbering carriers and factory ships bloated with smallcraft and supplies, all surrounded by shoals of escorts, corvettes and raider craft, each capable of setting fire to entire biomes and cracking planetary crusts by themselves. This grand armada represents but a drop in the former strength and military prowess of the combined species of Humanity, and more so if any ships from allied civilizations managed to meet up as well, such is their state after tens of millennia of paranoia and colonial ambition, constantly preparing for the inevitable next clash between them and the far greater galactic leviathan threatening to consume and erase them. Despite the vast difference in territory, resources and industial capability between the united races of Humanity and the Forerunner Ecumene Humanity has always been a far more warlike and innovative culture, and combined with their alarmingly-fast rate of multiplication in a nationalistic faith that promotes as much, Humanity has shown time and time again that it will not bow to the Foreunners without far more resistance than any species of their miniscule galactic holdings had any right to have. The combined fleet has no idea what reinforcements to expect, or if they are the only forces remaining between the core systems and the Didact in the Dominion. Whatever the beliefs of the individual soldiers, they will fight to the last. For the innocent and the oppressed, for their loved ones, for their freedoms, for the nation that so many had bled and died to preserve, for the Mantle, and above all else: For Humanity.

(I know what the caanon and books say about fleet numbers for the Forerunner era, but given that the Forerunners had hegemony over the vast majority of the galaxy for over 10 million years and the AHE managed to hold out against the full might of that with a fraction,,, of a fraction of their former strength (due to the Flood and the later events of the Forerunners blocking out the mainstay of the AHE's forces from doing anything via Slipspace reconciliation jamming) for over a millennium.... I cranked up the numbers for both sides to something which I think would fit better for the scale of their empires)

Option Two: This is one of the fleets that was unable to reach the Hakkor system in time to help the throneworld shoulder the burden of the Didact's prolonged siege, and their fleets and legions, along with any supplies and resources that could have been used to aid their comrades, were stymied by the implacable SLipapce reconciliation jamming of the Ecumene, whose superior technology and numbers allowed them to monitor and intercept Hominid forces through Slipspace while slowing them down to a galacial pace, if they could access the tranlight dimensions at all. While these Forerunner jamming netowrks allowed the Ecumene to efficiently section and partition off the surviving territories of the Hominid Dominion to the extent that none of them could form a united or cohesive force large enough to present a threat to their siege or borders, some cracks would inevitable be found by the Hominids and their allies, for no plan is entirely without flaw. Perhaps the most important flaw in this plan of the Didact's was that it relied on thr Ecumene's own existing knowledge about SLipsapce routes and pathways across the galaxy, meaning that even if soem Hominid forces were to escape the trap by fleeing outside of known space, they would be unable to do anything to turnthe war effort, since the Ecumene's strongest and most-advanced forces were all concentrated around Charum Hakkor, and despite their military force density there, Forerunner space in of itself was still too well-defended by advanced early-warning grids and rapid-response fleets and hidden fortifications for the Dominion forces to do any lasting damage. However, that does not mean that they could not simply leave WITHOUT trying to go back, either to assist or attack anywhere. If some Hominids were unaccounted for, then the Ecumene considered that a, acceptable risk, since they reasoned that whatever they might eb able to do out in the depths of Dark Space, the technological, numerical, industrial and resource superiority of the Ecumene will ensure that they will always be triumphant.

It was in this knowledge that after being informed that the Forerunner blockade of the capital system was total and no help would be arriving, the Lord of Admirals, Forthencho, issued a decree to all of the forces of Humanity and those who had remained true ot its cause. The decree was issued on all comms frequencies and methods, so that even though the Forerunners intercepted it and blocked it to an extent, it would still get out to those who could understand. The message relayed were 4 words. Four simple words, when taken out of context are meaningless and random, four words that ensured the Foreurnners would not abe able to entrap Human civilization and ideals completely. Those four words were "Commence Snow Forest Oni". And with those four words, fleets throughout the shattered and sectioned off domains of Man and those who would listen to them took anyone and anything they could before burning or boobytrapping the rest and setting their sights to the extragalactic cosmos. Across the shattered Dominion, entire woulds would be stripped to the mantle of anything useful, and people and resources would be stuffed in and onto any and all veseels capable of interstellar flight and Slipspace or being hastily connected or towed by somethin gthat could. Anything they could use to store more resources, technologies and people was used. The interiors of enviro-habitats had their natural grounds and non-optimized properties buried under material wealth and supplies, entire groundside cities and islands were uprooted and retrofitted for the void. Once eveything that could hold stuff was made to move togther, the fleets, the most-capable ships and mobile installations would take point and set a protective shield around the core mass. This would be just one such fleet of uncounted many, desperate to try their hand at surviving the threats in the Unknown rather than accept extinction at the hands of the known.
