Baz does make beautiful films. I have the first three, but I haven't seen Australia yet.
When Romeo and Juliet came out I went to see it with a friend, and we liked it enough that we took our girlfriends and other assorted people back to see it again. (well, he liked it. I loved it, particularly Clare Danes).
The music is fantastic, and the way the characters were all dressed was so unusual for the nineties that we all became obsessed with trying to dress like that.

Romeo and Juliet is actually the only Baz luhrmann film I've seen. Harold Perrineau was my favorite actor (he played Mercutio

If you haven't seen Moulin Rouge and Strictly Ballroom they're both worth watching. Moulin Rouge is a visually beautiful film, with weird takes on a lot of modern pop music, and Strictly Ballroom has some amazing dancing in it. Both are much more zany than Romeo and Juliet, which some people find irritating.
I know a lot of guys who refuse point blank to watch a Luhrman film.
Mercutio did the most ass kicking in the entire film.

And people told me that Romeo and Juliet is very different from his other films.
But I'm definitely interested in watching them.
Claire Danes (she played Juliet) really annoyed me in the film though. She's such a damsel.

And I don't have anything against her I just always hate damsels in movies.
