decided to illustrate a bit of writing i posted earlier today~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Skyla: *approaching with an uncertain smile* Hello there. It’s Moondancer, isn’t it?
Moondancer: *looks up from his book, disinterested* Yes. Good afternoon, Princess Skyla.
Skyla: At ease, please. I’d like to talk frankly for a moment. I’ve seen you in and out of Aunt Twilight’s library so constantly I’m surprised you haven’t worn a groove into the floor. *thin smile* May I ask...what exactly is it you’re studying so persistently?
Moondancer: *snaps his book shut, suddenly guarded* That’s a little personal, don’t you think?
Skyla: *feigning confusion* No, not at all, I’d think. Surely you have nothing to hide?
Moondancer: No. My motivations are the same as yours, princess. I wish to become something greater than myself. *pointed look to her forehead*
Skyla: *touches forehead, a little self-consciously* ....Yes, well. Whatever it is you’re seeking, Moondancer, I should hope it’s for the greater good. That’s why I wish to become an alicorn myself-to be a better, stronger leader for my subjects.
Moondancer: *annoyed, cold* How very noble, your highness. A lesser pony might seek an alicorn ascension simply to feel less....out of place among the other princesses. Perhaps that lesser pony might even dress that insecurity up as a selfless lie, too.
Skyla: *eyes narrow* ....What are you saying?
Moondancer: *nastily* I’m saying that you may have other ponies fooled, even yourself, but I know what you are. Parading about as a perfect pink pretty princess, wishing upon a star for a fancy new horn to pair with your wings...it’ll never happen. *raises head* You are not, nor will you ever be, Princess Flurry Heart.
Skyla: *eyes widen, takes a step back* I...I....*her eyes glisten with tears for just a moment, before her face becomes stony, calculated*
That’s right. I’ll never be my sister...just as you, Moondancer, will never be Starswirl the Bearded.
Moondancer: *flinches in surprise and restrained hurt*
Skyla: *sneering* So as long as we’re being completely frank with each other....I don’t like you. I am the heir to the princess of love...I am very talented at sensing emotions in ponies. I know how you look at Pandora. I see that jealous little gleam in your eye, I sense the malice in your mind, I know exactly what you desire in your rotten little heart, and for that, I have just one thing to say. *stands up straight to glower down at him* Stay away from my cousin, Moondancer.
Moondancer:*feigning indifference*....Or what, false princess?
Skyla: Or you’ll learn that I don’t need a horn to tear you to pieces. *the two glare at each other for a long moment. Skyla's wings flare open, making her appear regal, imposing, powerful. Moondancer eventually looks away.* Do I make myself clear?
Moondancer: *surly, momentarily defeated*...Crystal.

i get asked a lot what the relationship between these two is like, i guess because they're my most ambitious characters
wellllll they canonically hate each other. They can see each other for exactly who the other is, and while both are ambitious to the point of unhealthy obsession, Skyla is still a good, caring person at heart, while Moondancer is largely out for personal gain and to assert his self-perceived superiority over others.

The wiki is referencing additional materials like comics and storybooks, which aren’t canon (and frequently get contradicted by the show). The show has never referred to Cadence as Celestia’s niece, and Celestia has never acted especially familial to her. I don’t view it as canon.

Moondancer didn't wince, he didn't flinch. For as long as there has been ponies that have tried to bring him down, they're favorite points to hit were his lack of a father and his relation to Starswirl. He had long since grown used to it. "You're right, false princess, I am not my ancestor. And that is where we truly differ. You see your pinnacle and desire to be the same. I see mine and I don't. Moondancer has his own potential to fulfill and I intend to do my damned best to be even greater than my ancestor. So, why don't you just say what you are really here for and let me get on with my day."
Skyla was quite taken aback. Did he honestly think he could be greater than thee Starswirl the Bearded? "Very well. I don't like you and I can see that you are not nearly as clean as you might like ponies to believe you to be. You are jealous of my cousin and..."
"I have never denied such," Moondancer interrupted, taking a petty sense of pleasure from her affronted look at his doing so. "And you're jealous too. Easily understandable, a pony gives something everything they have, throw their very soul into it, shed sweat and tears to improve, and when you finally achieve something, along comes someone else and with the greatest ease and the barest of efforts on their first try, makes what you did seem the work of an infant or an invalid. At this moment I could be talking about either of us. Do yourself a favor, false princess," Moondancer muttered while opening his book again, "when you confront those you believe are dark inside, be prepared for them to hit back in the dirtiest of ways."
He dismissed her, she wasn't even worthy of a proper dismissal in his eyes either. Skyla took a deep breath, restraining herself before she did something she would regret. "If you ever hurt my cousin, you better hope she kills you before I get my hooves on you. Because what I would do to you would be legendary in the deepest of pits in Tartarus."
"Sounds like a bash, princess, let's make it a date."
Skyla strode away enraged as never before. Moondancer just sat there not even reading, going over everything he had ever learned about dealing with those that came to attack him. It was still hard not to cow to them.
Moondancer has been bullied and anyone that has knows that when you finally snap and start returning it, you end up becoming something of an expert on how to get at others. If they want attention, especially from you, make them understand they aren't worthy of it. If they have achieved something, belittle it. If they have created something, damage it. The hardest thing is finding the nerve to do it, to not fall back and cower when attacked.

Hm, it's weird how your pony characters actually snarl like some carnivores...
I wouldn't mind so much but sometimes you give them a horse-ish appearence, instead of the round head MLP style, and then you give them sharp teeth? Why? I mean, there's Bruce, ok, he has this particular quirk, being a fish eater (don't get why tho) and having sharp fangs, and then now theres Skyla and Moony. I've seen some other characters kinda growling like this, like Stormy and Chakra...it makes them look more like...idk dogs and less like ponies.
I mean, maybe it is to show some aggressivity, but still, they're ponies. And ponies can be pretty aggressive on their own, there's no need to throw some traits from other animals.

Eh, every artist has their own way of depicting a certain species, regardless of anatomical correctness. From what I've seen, not everyone HAS to draw a MLP head in the same way it was done in the actual show - not certain why you think it must be done like that.
Lop has explained why some of the ponies are fish eaters, and I think you can discover that mystery within her status updates somewhere.
Also, sharp teeth may be used to demonstrate the severity of the expression, because a snarl with dull teeth may look rather... odd. It's not necessarily that the animals were meant to have canine/feline teeth, but more to narrow down on their expressions.
Morale of the story, artists don't need awkward quirks to tell them how to draw what they like. Thanks!

You aren't not much of a reader, are you, fella?
I'm talking about snarls and sharp teeth not being a characteristic of a horse/pony. And for someone who draw their ponies in a more animalistic style, with hoves, long faces and actual...well bodies, instead of the peanut shape, huge eyes and tiny snouts like MLP, it would be expected she'd follow the basics about their anatomy, since she does it better than MLP.
I said I could understand how Bruce had sharp teeth because, yes, I've read what she said about the habits of Oatstralia. Ponies from there are fish eaters for some reason and have sharp teeth. What bothered me is there are plenty of other pony characters who snarl and have sharp teeth with no explanation, LIKE BRUCE'S.
Yes, a snarl with dull teeth would look dumb, wouldn't it? Well, as I said, Horses don't snarl. They don't even have the muscles to do so. There are plenty other expressions we could use to make them look threatening or angry, but SNARL isn't one of them.
Your "morale" makes no sense in the context, neither do your pointers.
Maybe next time you can actually read what others are saying instead of slamming your face on the keyboard trying to prove a point.

You made an evident point to improve your grammar from the first attempt at insulting Lop's expressions, which you also failed to dote on. Since you can only "claim" my points make no sense instead of verifying why they didn't, I can't take you seriously - you just immediately reacted in an immature way because someone actually SAID something about what you commented on. This is the Internet. Expect a response.
And you also must not READ much either? Because I clearly said that art doesn't have to strive to be 100% anatomically correct. Loppodity can draw a horse's face however she wants to. It's good criticism, sure, but I don't see why you took her "snarling" so personally. As if it offended you.
Also, an essay on horse anatomy ISN'T much of a point, either, since you already specified WHY it didn't make sense. Because art DOESN'T MAKE SENSE. And it doesn't have to. The artist can go around and choose how they want to interpret an expression, and maybe a "snarl" is how Lop saw it. It's all about the EXPRESSION, dear, NOT the ANATOMICAL CORRECTNESS.
If you're seriously so butthurt about what I said and how Loppodity draws HER characters, just don't look at it and keep moving on. There's no need to comment on something that doesn't have anything to do with you.

Ah, it didn't offend me. It bothers because she is a good artist and could improve the anatomy. It is a critique. Something, you might understand someday, very common for artists to receive around DA. It helps improve their art and their characters, like Smokescreen, who had a design change after a few critiques. Say what you want, but every artist knows how important a good anatomy is.
The only butthurt (that's a weird, rude and uncalled-for expression, but when in Rome...) seems to be you, reacting like I've offended both you and her somehow...and as far as I'm aware, you have nothing to do with this. To be honest, as I write this, I am questioning as to why am I even bothering answering you...but heh, I'm already done here.

I don't like dumb arguments in my comments section. To clear things up, your comment is not a critique. It's just you giving an unwanted lecture on something everyone already knows. It comes off as patronizing. Ponies can't snarl, true. But in art and in storytelling, you have to make visual shorthands, which means making a pony snarl to indicate aggression. When real life horses are angry, they mostly just pin back their ears. If I drew Skyla and Moony only with pinned back ears, it wouldn't convey as much story, and it wouldn't look as interesting.
Ponies can't snarl. So what? They also can't talk, fly, or do magic. Anatomy wise, they can't bend their hooves to hold things, or hug each other, or do much of anything besides run, mate, and poop. It's absurd to demand absolute life-life realism from fictional anthropomorphized ponies-and if you do want perfect accurate horse behavior, draw it yourself, dude.

Artists usually ASK for a critique. When they don't ask, just comment on the piece. This is how great artists like MajinBanzai went out of control because she kept getting the critiques she never asked for.
Butthurt is a gamer's term. Since you must be outside that range of knowledge, I guess I'll choose something more lenient for the uninformed.
