Ubbo-Sathla may not have been a deity, but just - stuff.
Lovecraft in AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS stated that the Old Ones created earth-life from raw chemicals and used that to fashion the Shoggoths. Leftover material was left to brood & breed on its own, evolving into sane earth-life. Lovecraft implied that earth-life began as an accident or a joke. (see the Russian animation to BOLERO).
The Book of Eibon glimpsed the facts dimly in cloaking this primal mess under the term Ubbo-Sathla.

Wonderful! It's only in the last several months that I've gotten back into reading C.A.S. The first time around was probably in Junior High (a LONG time ago). I failed to appreciate him then quite half enough.

I've loved CAS from the first story I ever read. I think his imagination isn't as much unbridled as it is untamed! His tales are just wonderfully unpredictive.

One of my favorite writers! Have you read his "Epiphany of Death"? My friend mscorley did a marvelous illustration from that tale--feel free to check it out in my Favorites!
...Klarkash-Ton would have loved the earrings!
