Some kind of alien egg; probably about to hatch.

This is a 3D print of the original animated render, which you can see either as an APNG or GIF image. The shape was created using Functy then printed by Shapeways .

I had to tweak the function used for the egg slightly to make it printable (the original had discontinuities). This printed version is a spherical function with the following formula:

radius = (3*(0.5+(sin(cos(a)+(p*((3+cos((pi*0.3)-1.5))/4))*10)**2)+((6/6.6)*((2+sin(8*a))/3)**4)))*sin(p)+(4.3*(1-(sin(p)**2))),

colour (R, G, B) = (r/8, (3+sin((a)*8))/5, (3+cos(a*8))/5).
