The book has a whole bunch of small tales. Their titles were made up by the translator/editor, so it wouldn't help if I told you the titles of the bowl ones, so I'll just tell you what they were about.
I.
One was about a monk who sent to a merchant his bowl every day, to collect alms to support his temple. Every day, the bowl would fly down from the shrine, to the merchant's house, and he would fill it up; then the bowl would fly back up. One day, the bowl came while the man was working in his storehouse. When he saw the bowl come in, he was annoyed. "Greedy bowl!" he said, and swatted it aside. The bowl landed in a corner of the storehouse and the man continued working, forgetting about the bowl. When his work there was done, he left the storehouse and closed up, completely having forgotten about the bowl.
That evening, there was a huge rumble and tremor, and all the people of the household went out, to see what the matter was. And there was the bowl, which had gotten out of the storehouse and down underneath it, and had heaved the whole storehouse up into the air! The bowl carried the whole storehouse up the mountain and deposited it next to the monk's shrine. The man followed the bowl up and talked to the monk, asking for his storehouse back. The monk said he couldn't return it, and, besides, he could use something like that, but that the man was welcome to take the contents back. The bowl floated the sacks of rice back down to the man's house, and the man left some with the monk.
II.
The second story, I don't remember too well. It was about a monk or some sort of holy man who lived in a cave in a mountain. He had a bowl that he made fly down to fetch him water, and he thought greatly of himself for being able to do this. One day, he saw another bowl fly by; it was coming from farther up the mountain. He followed the bowl and found it belonged to an even holier man (though how the first guy knew this, I don't know), who was holier because he wasn't proud. The first man then became an apprentice to the second.

Ahh thank you for telling me those stories, it looks like you had to type a lot! This is the first time I've heard those about flying bowls
The tale of the proud monk reminded me of a different funny story (it's Chinese) about... a proud guy and farts XD www.avani-mehta.com/2008/08/08…
