The Black Stone? I don't know whether it's on purpose or not, but I can see a shape of a skull or of something like head of the person on Munch's Scream. I can actually see more interesting shapes there, it depicts the idea of disintegration and dissolving really well.
I'm very glad that I found this picture.

Your paintings are so tangible. This is an excellent example of that. I want to touch it.

wow! i could never get the gold tone in my paintings. if you don't mind, what colors do you use for this? thanks

liquidclouds In reply to tetrs [2007-01-13 20:36:16 +0000 UTC]

the trick is the use of thin transparent layers of paint... I painted the stone in white first very roughly then when its dry I painted it over with several layers of burnt sienna, yellow & white then before these layers dry, I wipe off the colour in the light areas thus revealing the white from the first layer but leaving the "layered colour" in the creases, creating a sort of vibrato of colours hope that helps you othervise just aske more

thanks! that was really helpful! no wonder why i can't achieve that effect, i never have the patience for drying and layering. but i will now! thanks again!

nice work. do you focus on stages in alchemy very often? i also have an interest in this.

yes its one of my main interests along with physics (Chaos theory, Quantum mechanics, Fractals & all that stuff) and psychology... I think they all link in some way... alchemy, physics & psychology sometimes have the same stages and processes, specially psychology & alchemy. have you read anything that Jung wrote about alchemy ??

the painting is interesting how although it is in the nigredo stage. the essence of the gold is visible in it.

it reminds me of a story in joseph campbells; power of myth, in which he refers to jung and one of his patients who drew a picture of herself stuck in some rocks by the seashore. all around her were rocks, but trapped inside the rocks were lots of pieces of gold. eventually she became better and drew a picture with the gold released from inside it's confines.

yeah i agree about the similar patterns. but no i havn't read anything on alchemy by jung (only man and his symbols). i have often wondered what the books in relation to alchemy by him are like? plus what books in general on this subject you recommend? i have only read a small book by adam mclean and studied his website which is linked at levity.com (which you probably already know)

i have been reading a book lately by fred alan wolf called parallel universes. which i guess would fall into the quantum-physics area.

jung also wrote a book on coincidental manifestations...ive seen some literary articles about the alchemical processes not by jung but by Democritus...insane philosopher he was...lol...quantum physics theorized also the alchemical process of creating gold by metamorphosing the lepton and quark components of lead transforming one of its subatomic particle into the atomic gold...

sounds interesting. i often wonder about the modern interpretations of the alchemical processes. i also wonder if these modern techniques were achieved and "real" gold was made, what would happen to the stock market?

you have a point there...lol...then i think the inventor of this alchemical transmutation would be assasinated, the moment he suceeds on doin so...

kainwhite1 In reply to gromyko [2007-02-02 05:45:28 +0000 UTC]

maybe. or the material which is required to make the gold would become worth it's weight in gold. therefore missing the point all together. serve 'em right.
