Question: So how do you get the pencil to look different and not so much pencil? I've used diffferent types (2B and such) but they always seem to dull to the same look.

I guess there are several factors that effect the final result.
Primarily, I do a simple light line work, and then start to shade slowly. Rather than trying to draw the exact/ precise shapes I try to build the general volumes through shading, such as putting emphasis on the voids and bumps.
Usually I work with very sharp pencils, and hold it slightly horizontal against the paper, rather than pointing the tip.
In addition, the paper type could effect the texture, generally I work with lightly textured paper.
Finally and the most important thing is to practice regularly. In fact, this work shows pretty well how one's style might develop through time.
I have still a lot to develop, and I'm always pushing and motivating myself to keep drawing!
