standing on the middle margin of a highway after midnight, taking pictures of cars...maybe not the best idea ever.

I like the effect of the longer shutter speed, although it's a small shame it wasn't much effective here, as it seems as if it's not a busy road...

Still, I like how you've captured a bit of motion and movement with the passing car there. The fact it's captured at night time automatically makes it quite cool... for me, anyway. I like the angle and how that not only adds an edge to things, but makes it more interesting as well.

I suppose it could have been better positioned/framed, but the perspective isn't so bad.

Lovely concept.

Haha, I wait until there are fewer distracting cars, and then realize that it could have been more interesting with more cars.

In what ways could this shot have been better positioned?

Less tilt, perhaps, closer to the road so that the left is cut off... It depends, really. I feel you could have experimented.

Yes, I probably should have, but at that point it was both a secondary shot (I was trying to get some of the city, turned around and snapped this one) and I had been in the middle of the road for a while.

I shall have to try again sometime.

Oh right, I see.

That would be pretty cool.

I agree, this cool shot could have been even cooler with a smaller aperture and longer exposure. Maybe pop a flash to bring out some detail on the right.

f4.5 is the smallest my aperture goes, on that lens anyway. Interesting idea regarding the flash and the right side, maybe I'll have to stand in the middle of a highway to try again sometime.

stay safe! Oh, and by smaller aperture, I mean higher f-stop, like f/8 to f/11. That'll give you a longer depth of focus, so the sign in the foreground and the one in the distance will both be in focus. It'll also require a longer shutter speed, so the passing car will have a longer light trail.

oops, I don't know why I went "small number=small apeture" (doh)

i'll blame it on lack of sleep. Thanks for the ideas!

You could experiment, I guess.
