A 3-page mini-comic taken from the book Sabriel by Garth Nix.

SPOILERS - What's going on: Sabriel has been in search of her father, the Abhorsen - a necromancer who protects their world from the risen Dead. The Abhorsen is a title passed on through generations, as are the bells which they use to banish the Dead back into Death where they belong. Along the way, she found a man who calls himself Touchstone (which means fool), preserved as a figurehead in a royal burial chamber. Little does she know, he's the last remaining member of the royal bloodline, whom they thought dead.

Sabriel finds her father trapped in Death, his body in a diamond of protection in a reservoir where Touchstone's family had been murdered years ago by his brother, Kerrigor, now a very powerful Dead Adept. It's a trap, and Kerrigor comes for them, hoping to finish the job and break the last of the magical Great Stones found in the reservoir. Sabriel's father takes the most deadly of the bells and while he and Sabriel are still in Death, tells her to take Touchstone and run. He and a magical being in the form of a cat, named Mogget, stay behind in the reservoir to sacrifice themselves in order to send Kerrigor and his minions back into Death.
