La belleza se crea, y solo los artistas muy avezados; aquellos despojados de los convencionalismos y los estereotipos mediáticos, saben que la belleza no es sinónimo de perfección, como vulgarmente se cree, sino un genial trenzado de defectos y virtudes.
Resaltemos, de entrada, que el rostro de la modelo de este retrato es interesante de por sí, y su más importante materia prima. Lidia Vives se explota a sí misma, tramo por tramo, desde la cabellera hasta los hombros, para lograr efectos llenos, sí, de belleza, pero con un algo teatral que hace de sus maravillosas fotos auténticos performances. La que aquí nos ocupa es una de las más sencillas, al menos en apariencia. Vemos a la modelo enfrentando retadora a la lente, con la cabellera vuelta un tormentoso amasijo; una melena arremolinada en torno a un rostro pequeño que sin embargo ostenta rasgos vistosos como las cejas leoninas, los grandes ojos y la boca maquillada como una frambuesa. Hay en esta imagen algo desafiante, el atisbo de una muñeca que se rebela a ser perfecta y permanecer inmóvil. Hay, también, algo mordaz: la chica que se rebela a ser perfecta, que no delinea sus cejas a la moda y trastoca el maquillaje en subversión...pero, como en la mayoría de los autorretratos de Lidia, también salen a relucir la melancolía, la ternura y el carácter.
El Blanco y Negro, al que Lidia no es demasiado afecta, contribuye a otorgarle un dramatismo eléctrico a un retrato, de por sí, impactante. Esta mujer nos mira desde su refugio, nos desafía a cambiarla, a moverla...pero al mismo tiempo presenta la intimidante seguridad de quien sabe cual es su lugar en la vida, su meta.
La perfección no necesariamente es hermosa, en cambio, la imperfección calculada, lúdica, expresiva, lo será invariablemente. Lidia nos brinda una preciosa imagen de quién es Lidia realmente, pero, al mismo tiempo, se asume otra que solo puede ser producto de la imaginación. Grandiosa!
