Description For the Halfamoon challenge. Fran from Final Fantasy XII, on dawn watch in the Tchita Uplands.

Fran is a Viera. Despite the bunny ears, and a tendency to wear lingerie and pretty-but-impractical looking armour, Fran is usually anything but delicate. She is tough, strong-willed, enigmatic, compassionate, clever, sensible and has a sly sense of humour.

I wanted to paint her in a different situation than normal - perhaps relaxing or meditating, though THIS wasn't my original concept. I'm happy with the way it turned out, and it has some thematic similarities with "Butterfly of Ill Omen" [link]

Fran's outfit and ears loosely referenced from the official art. The background only vaguely similar to the Tchita Uplands. Wacom Graphire. and Corel Painter X using the small goauche brushes, small fine airbrush, 1 pixel inkpen and round blending brushes. Original size 6000x5000.

The only digital elements used were Layers and the Eraser. I'm trying to paint everything, so this includes more of my sketchy background work. I'm still trying to figure out a way to paint trees and grass which suits my style - so far it is lots of different types of tiny squiggles .

This is so gorgeous and I totally get the feeling you were trying to create. Fran is one of my fav. characters! I the detail in this piece! You did a great job!

I enjoy painting lots of detail - though Fran's armour was maybe a bit too much of a challenge! (so many fiddly little bits )

It is so nice to see a picture of Fran were she isn't just posing and standing around. I love the soft lighting that you use and the simple, innocent gesture of reaching out for the wisp of the flower. Beautiful work!

I love Fran, and this is a lovely painting of her. The background and her hair look especially well done to me. It's great to see her in a less uptight pose, and I must give you some props for taking on that complex armor of hers.

as if there are some wrinkles ...

Thank you! It's certainly a change to do something outside my usual TV fandoms, even if it is a similar style . I've concluded Fran uses magic (or technics) to keep that armour on

Thank you! It is such a beautiful looking game and I figured they had some peaceful moments on the journey( even if my experience of the game involved mostly frantic fighting or fleeing ).

I love this. It actually inspires me to finish my game...which I haven't touched in a few months

I love the idea with her lying amongst those flowers. The name of the flower escapes me...I keep thinking Dandelion...or maybe that's it. But I like the idea that she is as fragile as the flower as everyone believes Viera to be all tough.

Thank You! Yes, I used dandelions for the flowers. I liked the idea of the puffs floating softly on a light breeze. The games settings are very pretty but usually so deadly too , that I wanted to paint a quieter piece of countryside - and a quieter moment for Fran.

Lucky the concept art showed some of the armour otherwise I'd still be squinting at the game screenshots and making stuff up Fran must be using magic to keep the armour on, tho!
