This is Litoria the Tidal World.

It is less massive than the Earth and is covered in a shallow sea. Without active plate tectonics, the crustal surface has mostly low relief. The only permanent dry land is located at the poles. Imagine a global Bay of Fundy.

Litoria has not one but two moon that are in close binary orbit about a common barycenter. This produces very complex tides. The major tidal bulges completely innundate the equatorial regions of the planet twice a day. The animal life is adapted to a global tidal zone. Examples of these tide zone forms can be seen in this illustration:

THANX.

These worlds just pop out of my head. I may revisit them in the future.

This is beautiful painting!
May I ask you, are the moons as big as our moon? And what type of star (G;K;...etc.) orbits the planet?

The twin moons are smaller than Luna. However their combined mass exceeds that of Earth's moon. They are 1/5th the distance from the center of Litoria as Luna is to Earth. They are in rotational lock with each other but they show all sides to Litoria as they orbit the planet like a barbell spinning end over end in resonance with the world's rotational period. The star is a G8 like Sigma Draconis.

Now I can roughly imagine how strong the tides are on Litoria. Thank you very much for you answer.

love the idea and great execution, landscapes definitely are hard for me and this one is very nicely done - my hats off to you

Thank you very much. Sometimes I just let the right hemisphere of my brain take over. I am working on a color version of one of my exoplanet landscapes with binary suns.

The tidal bore might make for some fine surfing.

Yes, and we need the California music too
