Looks like those angry villagers are in for a nasty ass-whooping! Nice 3D conversion of a classic comic cover!

Oh hey.... look at that! It feels like I need to throw on 3D glasses, this guy is popping right out of my screen! Awesome job with the characters, especially the villager! Are you going to do a full blown comic with this one?

leroysquab In reply to VeeSwan [2011-04-06 06:55:12 +0000 UTC]

Thanks Vee! Actually, it's already a comic... this is a re-do of an old cover. You're the first to comment on villagers! Thanks for noticing! I had a lot of fun doing those guys (though I had to build my own hats)

You're very welcome, and I think its awesome that you were able to do a cool old cover like that. And yes, the villagers are actually the first thing I noticed, very very well done! Did you make the hats in hexagon?

Thanks again, Vee! Oh, yeah... good ol' Hex always helps me out when I can't find props. The hats and the front part of the Demon's cape too.

That is awesome, I keep doing the same, bits and pieces that I can't seem to find. Keep up the great work!

I'm sure I'm abusing a famous quote when I say it was Frank Zappa who said "Necessities ae the mothers of invention" ...and so we use Hex. :-D Thanks again... I will if you will

Cool! I like this beefy demon character Lance! He looks as though this is just a walk in the park. hehe You always do such a good job with your action images. I especially like the pov on this one with your pitchfork guy up close and the firery castle in the background. Geez, this guy must have been asking for it. hehe But I have a feeling he can take it just as well as dishing it out. Great render Lance!

Thanks Suzi! Oh yeah, that beefy demon's a tough one! He'll have no problem with this crew! I'm often influenced by legendary comic artist Jack Kirby although more so than usual here... this is a redo of one of his covers so he deserves the credit for the POV, foreground pitchfork and burning castle, all of which I found very appealing myself which is why I chose it! I also wanted to redo another cover for the "Covered" blog which features re-dos of comic book covers. It's a fun site although I think I was the 1st to submit (and get accepted with) a rendered submission among the hand drawn and painted stuff and the comments were mostly beating the hell out of my work. Apparently, they didn't know that this too, only encourages me.

Your welcome! Comic books are great inspiration for action scenes. The poses are always so exaggerated and cool looking. I look at them a lot to get idea's for posing characters. That's so cool that your image was accepted! Wooot! Congrats!! But so sad that your digital work got a beating. Pay them no mind, they are just jealous of something they do not understand. hehe It would not have been accepted if it did not satisfy the requirements in the first place. Good for you! I have been on the receiving end of that stick as well and it's not fun. boo! And your exactly right, take their anger and use it to fuel your work. Show them how it's done!! Yea! There are so many different mediums of art but it all boils down to the end result. Who cares what means you used to get there. That's what I think anyway. hehe weeeeeee!

Thanks BjΓΆrn! It's M4 although a bunch of F4 morphs have been applied (as well as M4 morphs and my own zbrush morph).

Awesome! You always have the best point of view and poses in your images, not to mention your great attention to detail. Somehow I think these poor dudes and their weapons won't really have much effect on Etigran here! I really love how you spotlight some of the non-mainstream comic characters and bring them to light. Great work, Lance!

Thanks bud! Much of the credit for POV and layout goes to Jack Kirby whom I borrowed heavily from here. Indeed, pity should go to the crowd rather than Etrigan! I really do have a great love for the lesser known characters and while my images of them are less popular than those of well known characters, it's a great deal of fun presenting them... particularly character like this one who's odd costume and strange face make for such a fun challenge

Wow. Great pic! I can't help but think tho, if he lands wrong that pitchfork its gonna hit a very bad place! Then it won't matter how badass he is, he'll be done and begging for their help. Haha.
