It's so beautiful!
Do you use photoshop? I wanna start digital art , on stuff like that.
How do you normally start?
your work is amazing!

I use photoshop now, but when I first started
digital art I used ms Paint, then I moved on
to Paint.net then Artrange (because I got one
free with my tablet). After I got photoshop I
got Gimp (this would be the best option for any
one who can't get their hands of either Photo-
shop or Sai.

So first thing you wan't to get/buy a program if
your serious, and a tablet really REALLY helps!

And when I first started I just did simple 3 layer
drawing which were the Sketch, Lineart and Colour.

So that was a practice really now that I think back
to it.

The I would move on to trying to draw backgrounds in
and really it just practice and learning different
techniques (like how you can use different brush to
create different textures)

Anyway if you do start drawing digitally all I can say
are...
-> Use reference (really helps)
-> Be 100% happy with your sketch
-> And save as you go along...most annoying thing when you
lose all your work

Hope this helps,

And thanks for the comments and the Watch

ps. need any more help just ask

Well..im honestly not sure what a tablet is i know, i know..im lame. haahah.
And actually I just downloaded GIMP last night
Did you ever draw your original sketch on paper then/or scan it onto the computer?

And for reference, do you mean, first start by drawing other people's pictures first and try to get it as close as you can? { and ask them of course,} .

ALso, I watch ppl's vids on youtube and such, but I'm so confused with all those layers/things. D:

But no problem! I find your art very inspiring hehe.
Thanks girl!

Tablet is like a graphic tablet, if you want to
find out more I would check out the link. It's
the same tablet I use

[link]

And about the ske I never used to draw it on paper
because it was harder to correct mistakes but recently
I find it so hard to sketch on photoshop and I can
now only do it on paper and scan it in.

And about reference I use photos and tutorials the most,
whats you were suggesting was more like practicing different
style which is good just not the reference I was talking
about

And what do you get confused about on the layers?

Also if you want I saved my last picture at different stages
and was going to make it into a step by step. If you want I
could do that and upload in for you to have a look at ?
(this pic -> [link] )

Again hope this helped,
feel free to ask any questions

Whoaa, I want a tablet.. they're so cool! Better start saving my money...
When'd you get it?

SO after you have scanned a pic, then would you just open it in whatever program you have.. (GIMP for me). After that..then I'm just not sure how to do it,,the whole layer thing, what are they even for?
Should I trace it with a black outline?
Im just realllyyy stuck on where to begin after I'd scan the thing. Lol.

As for the reference, do you mean likkee..finding real - life photos..lets say of wolves, and drawing them in your own style..but still the same "picture" ? Sorry if i seem really..really dumb.

I would loove for you to upload those steps/pics!
Thanks so much!

I got my tablet almost 2 years ago and nothing gone
wrong with it since I got it

Ok and what you do once you open a picture in gimp
is to name it (this just makes it easier to know which
layers have what on them) so I would name it 'Sketch'

Then you want another layer under 'Sketch' Which is
just blank.

Then make another layer called 'Lineart', so so far you
layer order would be (from top to bottome)

Lineart
Sketch
Blank

Now the reason you need a blank layer is so that you can
change the opacity of the 'sketch' layer (this makes
it easier for me to draw the lineart'

So then you would go ahead and draw over the sketch with
a lineart.

Once your done you won't need the sketch layer anymore so
you could just hide it or delete it. And that's the good
thing with layers you can delete one layer with out it
affecting the whole picture.

I would then surgest using atleast two more layers if you
not including a background, these would be 'Colour'
and 'Shading'.

So so far we've got

Lineart (allways go near or at the top of the list)
Shading
Colour
Blank

Now some people who draw stuff like anime might use
a different layer for each item of clothing and stuff
like that and quite often people who draw animals
might use a new layer for each different colour of
markings.

Anyway different people use a different amount of layers,
what ever you think is necessary and makes you picture
easier to draw.

For example when I draw a picture with a bg I usually use
around 15 layers, but like I said earlier I used to use
3 so use as many as you feel are necessary for your pic
and all ways name them, makes it so much easier

And I use real life photos as reference as I like my pics
to look a lil more lifelike than cartooney and lol
doesn't sounds dumb, after all everyone's gotta start somewhere

Oh and heres link to the step by step -> [link]

Hope this helped

I don't merge the layers, I just save the picture in what ever
format Im making it in (photoshop. or gimp. just in case I need to
go back and change something or work on it)
Then save it again but press 'save as' then choose a file format,
you can do this by choosing one from the drop down list right below
where you type the file name.

Hope this helps
