Description Design-y poster thingy I whipped up for Ruggero Deodato's Concorde Affaire '79 (read all about it here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concorde… and here www.imdb.com/title/tt0078989/ ) which is a fun knockoff of The Concorde: Airport '79. It's kind of half disaster movie and half James Bond with a little Hitchcock thrown in

Ruggero Deodato is probably most famous for Cannibal Holocaust and I think he's a-okay

Can you tell me more about your interest in old books and films? Where did it all start?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

leothefox In reply to Vulpes-Exogenesis [2015-03-11 15:07:16 +0000 UTC]

I think it began because in my youth in the 80s I would frequently
see films from the 60s and 70s on TV and my parents would educate
me a little about it. When I became obsessed with James Bond at
the age of 12 I also became obsessed with film trivia and chronology

Awesome poster design man! It looks bit like American & retro, which also has a feel to it, too. I am still not intested in Deodato's works but I would like to see THE HOUSE ON THE EDGE OF THE PARK (and possibly this one). Well done once again!

Many thanks! Are you just looking to avoid the cannibal genre? He did another straight giallo too, like Phantom of Death

I see. I might look into PHANTOM OF DEATH, thanks.

I like it, anyhow. How do you like Joe D'Amato?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KaumiThomason In reply to leothefox [2015-03-01 03:39:39 +0000 UTC]

Well, I've watched ABSURD back a while ago and found it pretty entertaining so I could say it was my first D'Amato film experience so far. Started out like okay a little but got a bit better later on with the horror/suspense/mystery, but pretty much I enjoyed every moment overall and still looking forward to seeing more soon. Another interesting fact was that ABSURD was one of UK's video nasties titles and D'Amato produced Michele Soavi's first film STAGEFRIGHT (which I've seen as well, but love Soavi and wish he would done more films, too). My next D'Amato films I would really like to see are both EROTIC NIGHTS OF THE LIVING DEAD and possibly THE GRIM REAPER.
Thanks for asking.

leothefox In reply to KaumiThomason [2015-03-01 03:57:15 +0000 UTC]

Ah, that was a good one! I'd also recommend Death Smiles
on a Murderer and Beyond the Darkness
Oh yeah, a lot of great Italian horror wound up as Video
Nasties. The whole video nasty thing was censorship run amok.
I also enjoyed D'Amato's "Ator" movies, such delightfully bad
cinema

KaumiThomason In reply to leothefox [2015-03-01 04:10:17 +0000 UTC]

Yup!
I have listened to Goblin's score to BEYOND THE DARKNESS, and the theme is wonderful! I still would be interested in seeing that as well. (Thanks for recommending.)
I do know the story behind the video nasties for sure. How many titles you have watched from the list of video nasties so far and which one was the best (& don't forget the worst)? For me, not sure - haven't looked up the list in a long time but maybe I should.
ATOR... I might check into that, too.

leothefox In reply to KaumiThomason [2015-03-01 07:00:24 +0000 UTC]

No problem ^^
Well, I've seen Cannibal Ferox, which I thought was
one of Lenzi's better films, Cannibal Holocaust,
Evilspeak, which was okay, sort of a "Carrie" knockoff,
Fulci's House by the Cemetery which was a lot of fun,
House on the Edge of the Park, another good one,
I Spit on your Grave, which I found a bit disappointing,
The Last House on the Left, which is a classic of sorts,
Nightmare (aka Nightmare in a Damaged Brain
is another good one, one of those "nobody is safe" horror films,
Angento's Tenebre aka "Unsane" is a must, a wonderful
gialo, Bava's Bay of Blood is fantastic, a pioneering
slasher classic, Fulci's Zombie, which is wonderful,
Fulci's The Beyond, which is even better, Lommel's
The Boogie Man, which is laughably bad, but has a
good synth score, Luigi Cozi's Contamination which was
ruined by producers who turned his "alien" type film into more
of a weak james bond movie, Dead & Burried, which
I found to be overrated, Don't Go in the House, which
has some really good moments and a great ending, Hooper's
Eaten Alive, which is alright, but not nearly as good
as the first "texas chainsaw" picture, Evil Dead, needs
no introduction, Hooper's Funhouse, which was also
okay, Bruno Mattei's Hell of the Living Dead, which
is laughably bad, Argento's Inferno, another good
one, Sergio Martino's Mountain of the Cannibal God,
another good jungle terror/cannibal exploiter, Night School,
which has some good elements, but a lousy conclusion,
Night Warning, not recommended, Visiting Hours,
a great early slasher, and The Witch Who Came From The Sea,
which is really more of a drama about madness

Sorry to write so much, I guess I've seen a lot of them

Ator is a fun "Conan" knockoff which D'Amato threw together
in a hurry, but it works.

I see. I have seen about 13 or 14 so far. INFERNO & TENEBRE are still on my list of favorites by Argento (& always will), ZOMBIE is still Fulci's best (also my only favorite by him), didn't cared much for ether EVILSPEAK or DEAD & BURIED, have watched parts of THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT, EATEN ALIVE is good but bit simliar to THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE (which I perfer more), HELL OF THE LIVING DEAD I agree with you on, THE EVIL DEAD is a perfect example of independent filmmaking (loved it sooooo much! one of the greatest of all time), THE HOUSE BY THE CEMETERY was okay but would give another shot at, and I still need to watch the following: CANNIBAL FEROX, THE BEYOND, BAY OF BLOOD, DON'T GO IN THE HOUSE, VISITING HOURS, THE HOUSE ON THE EDGE OF THE PARK, NIGHTMARE IN A DAMAGED BRAIN, and I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE.
Thanks for sharing, and sure a lot to say though.

leothefox In reply to KaumiThomason [2015-03-02 03:57:51 +0000 UTC]

hehe Tenebre has the best axe murder ever
Eaten Alive would have been better if it had used
actual locations like Texas Chainsaw Massacre did.
Yeah, Evil Dead is just plain awesome.
I got to see House by the Cemetery on the big
screen, I think that made the difference
I believe that Don't go in the House and Visiting
Hours can be seen on Netflix or Youtube, I'd look
for them there

Strongly agreed with you on both TENEBRE and THE EVIL DEAD. You saw THE HOUSE BY THE CEMETERY on the big screen?! No way! That's just too awesome to hear, I've heard Grindhouse Releasing is showing THE BEYOND in theaters across country this season (even the Pacific Northwest sometime this month).
I see, although I don't do netflix except my parents.
