I have a dog who's also got Heterochromia and I took a (very similar) photograph to show it. My guy is a chocolate and tan American Cocker Spaniel. I suspect Herterochromia to be genetic, based not on research but the fact that my dog's sire, and all three of the siblings I've owned have had it. In both eyes.

Very interesting. That actually looks more like some photos of humans with heterochromia I’ve seen than the way it usually appears in dogs.

I agree. He's got the cleanest line between colors I've ever seen. His little sister's eyes (I don't have a good closeup of her on here, she's such a flightly little thing that just getting an in focus photo of her is a challenge) actually have three colors (there's an extra ring of super-dark chocolate around the outside).
I love seeing your photo. Heterochromia is completely fascinating, and most people don't even notice their dogs have it, let alone take the time to get a good photograph of it.
