Defensive, cold, impenetrable.
Rock solid and impossible to break through.
That's what I thought, until you came along.
My castle so carefully crafted,
Created to be indestructible,
Yet so easy to knock down.
A frigid wind blows through.
How long has it been since I've felt the wind?
How long has it been since I've gone outside,
Instead of looking out my window dreaming about it?
Defenses built over years, come down.
All because someone cared.
Anger, Hatred, Worry, Happiness, Love.
How long has it been since I've felt anything?
Years.
My castle, made of defenses and shields.
Made to protect me from everything and anything.
Even from myself.
To block out the Hate, the Disdain, the whispers, the stares.
To block out the Love, the Empathy, the hugs, the laughter.
To block out the world.
But there is no such thing as "impenetrable."
There is no such thing as a "defense."
It's all an illusion.
Nothing outside can truly to unbreakable.
But then the sun comes up,
And I realize the world keeps turning.
I get the courage to step out of your boundaries.
And I know everything is right again.
The castle is no longer needed.
I'm not a princess who needs protecting,
Or a baby who depends on my mother.
I am strong.
